Vox Telecom Fatpipe

If true, and the evidence seems to be getting fairly overwhelming now, then this seems to be quite an astute traffic management move to me.

People with regular Fatpipe accounts had no real incentive not to download during day or evening time or alternatively switch to a Fatpipe Lite unlimited Bolton account in the evenings which still meant that they could start downloading from 18:00. If/when this free after-midnight scheme comes in then I would expect a lot of download traffic to shift from day and evening to nighttime which frees up a bit of backbone bandwidth for people like me who want to stream live stuff during the evenings.

The headline feature of midnight to 6:00am unmetered access is of no direct interest to me but I can imagine how the indirect effect might be quite beneficial to everyone for their daytime and evening browsing, gaming and streaming due to the way it might shift download traffic to nighttime.

This 400GB FP w/unlimited midnight data on a 100Mbs FTTH line for R1400 dear god yes

So looking at the FatPipe accounts, a 250GB one is R579 per month - if they are going to be adding 12-6 unlimited downloads to it then that just about destroys all the IS business capped packages which are around R200 more.

This business is a numbers game, so I think they want to increase their market share, it will then be up to IS to respond. I think there are going to be 4 main players in this.

In no particular order

Vox
IS (with their re sellers)
Telkom
Mweb

(Think afrihost lost the plot, unless they come up with something brilliant)

Like a network that actually works, a 24/7 call centre that has phones actually manned 24/7 and not having to pay for gimmicky extras in a plus account as insurance for your data allocation.

It has taken quite long for the IPC doubling to work it's way into the market. Nice to see it finally happening.

Did vox ever get the telkom issue fixed, or is that still on going? I see NO notice on their website about the problems.

I just got kicked for a 547ms ping to a local game server.... Never had these sorts of problems with mweb.

My speeds are fine, but I've also (together with several others) been having a problem with pings in the evening to international gaming servers for the last week or so... Pings in the morning are amazing, sub-200ms, but as the evening rolls on:

Also happened to me many times this weekend and twice this evening... I was in a ranked LoL game as well :( !!!

I was also playing LoL and had no issues. I have issues between 7PM and 9PM usually (like Saturday, but not last night), but that's my exchange though, which I can't do anything about at the moment except wait for VDSL to be activated >.<

The uncapped accounts need the same 12 to 6am download window.

Also, 4 Mbps users seeing their accounts throttled to half line speed at 60 gigs until the end of the month are going to be rather frustrated if they don't know it is coming. Vox should make the thresholds a bit more obvious on sign up, because i imagine very few will bother to read the FUP.

I've always hated the midnight to 6am download slot. It's a great value-add to an already great product, but it won't persuade me to give up the bolt-on account.

and how are the FatPipe accounts during the day? Are they shaping ports? I just ask since I get to work from home from time to time and need VPN or terminal service access from home.

I do the same, latency isnt the best to the UK but God damn is it stable.
