Vox Telecom Fatpipe

Hey Julian - the reason is with Fatpipe Lite (and Fatpipe for that matter) don't have OOB any longer. The original Fatpipe did, where you could adjust your cap. We recently changed this ability to only permit the purchasing of Topups when you've exceeded your cap.

I hope that clears it up.

Seems the website needs some updates. I'll pass along the info.

Thanks Chris. The curse of forums though.... one question always seems to lead to another, or a couple in my case...

1 - How are topups priced? R<something> per GB or are they pre-packaged in bigger chunks (25GB/50GB/etc)?

2 - Is the ability to purchase topups really only enabled for an account once the monthly cap has been hit? If so then that would seem to guarantee an interuption in service when the cap is hit which would be a bit frustrating if watching something on a live TV stream, getting kicked out of the stream because the data cap had been reached, and then needing to log on as quickly as possible to buy a top-up to get working again.

Maybe I misunderstood what you typed but if not then it seems a real shame to not be able to pre-emptively buy top-up data to avoid a service interruption. Ideally I'd like to have enough control to try to minimise the chances of my getting cut off unexpectedly. It's not going to be a huge problem for me because I don't expect to use much data during the weekday 25GB times, most of my use will be during unlimited-bolt-on hours, but I'd still like to understand how the system does behave at or near the cap.

You're right about the website needing updating. The Fat Pipe page still explicitly makes reference to OOB data and gives a price for it whereas the Fat Pipe Lite page at least correctly makes reference to topups but frustratingly gives no pricing information for them.

1 - Chris can answer this :p.

2 - Enable notifications so you will know when you are nearing your cap located in your control panel. Alternatively there is now an official Vox app that allows monitoring of data usage, no idea if you can topup via the app but am sure if it isn't there, it is in the planning stages. :)

Always good to ask questions, am sure for a Q&A section, your questions would be chosen among the others here :).

So no change for the people with the Fat Pipe + Bolt on Uncapped?

Is that time frame not going to be changed for the Bolt on uncapped (6pm-6am)

Thanks Yuu. I'd seen the Vox app (I use iOS) and it looks really nice. Confusingly one of the screen shots (https://itunes.apple.com/za/app/vox-telecom/id1035333136?mt=8) shows an "adjust cap" screen which is the thing that Chris says they're now moving away from but, as you say, there are probably things in the planning stages.

Thanks for the info about notifications, that's really good to know that I can set up those. I'm still a bit worried though that I might not be able to act on them because I read Chris's last response as saying that the ability to purchase topups is "greyed-out" (maybe literally) in the control panel until the cap is actually hit so a notification would at least warn me that I might be close to getting cut off (which is useful) but that I won't be able to do anything about it until it happens.

I've looked but can't seem to find it...how does their cancellation process work? Currently with WA and hate their month notice cancellation.

I believe that the top ups are R5/GB, you'll need to log into the portal and confirm.

You can buy a top up any time you want, not just when cap is reached.

Fatpipe Lite + Bolt on remains unchanged.

Hey vox - I have a promo 1TB account while I wait for the FTTH to install here in Constantia. Do I get after hours data too?

Send me your dsl username and I'll check, I don't know off the top of my head but I will be able to tell from the configuration I find.
