Vulacom

They may as well have called themselves Vulawho

Anyway...

http://www.htxt.co.za/2015/08/17/norwood-the-latest-suburb-to-get-fibre-to-the-home/

If you have an ADSL connection for broadband internet at home, you could soon be outnumbered by the amount of people in suburbs that have super-fast fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) connections.
More suburbs are being added to various service providers’ networks, and Johannesburg’s Norwood, Orchards, The Gardens and Cheltondale are the latest areas to be connected.
“Community Active Protection (CAP) and the Norwood Orchards Residents’ Association (NORA) are excited to announce that after an extensive Request for Information (RFI) process, Vulacom has been selected as the preferred provider for the installation of fibre infrastructure in the NORA and surrounding suburbs,” reads a newsletter.
Even though Vulacom has been selected as the preferred provider, much still needs to be done before the connections can actually be made.
CAP and NORA said that before the end of August more information will be made available which will detail when the network will be rolled out, what timeline Vulacom will be working on, who the Internet Service Providers will be and what the pricing structure will look like.
“We are confident that the entire feeder network will be completed by November 2015, with home and business access connections deployed as and when required and approved.”

The suspense is killing me.....

Their website was up for about a day and has been down ever since. Launch was scheduled for the last week of September. Going with this no name brand is already having repercussions. Ridiculous considering Fibrehoods was ready to role from July this year.

Hi Guys. I have chatted to guys at cybersmart who can have service to the area in 90 days if they can sign on about 35 houses. They use dark fibre africa who already have cable running through our area. Why would Nora & CAP sign on with another company who i assume would have to trench when they could just go to DFA who have existing agreemnets with providers like mweb, vox etc in other areas!?

"vulacom.com is 4 months 1 week old. It is a domain having .com extension. This website is estimated worth of $ 8.95 and have a daily income of around $ 0.15. As no active threats were reported recently by users, vulacom.com is SAFE to browse"

Vulocm domain name only registered 4 months ago how can they have the extensive track record quoted earlier....i smell a big rat

Big fat lemon!! I questioned the Norwood residence association on the credibility of this company. Had very little to offer by way of a retort.

Dear Nora

Re fibre

Fibrehoods was ready to rollout fibre to the Norwood precinct since July this year. The decision to go with Vulacom is a peculiar one, given their no name brand status. It was a flawed decision IMHO, the consequences of which are already being felt! Disappointing!!

Response...

Thank you for your mail. The process that NORA run comparing Fibrehoods to Vulacom was a robust one, and we welcome scrutiny of our assessment criteria and decision. The fact is that Fibrehoods was not able to offer us a combined security and fibre solution - and in our survey this was identified as a key requirement for our neighbourhood. And it is not correct to assume that a Fibrehoods implementation would have been any smoother - their rollout in Craighall Park has taken more than 18 months. We will continue to hold Vulacom to account, and hope that you will join our public meeting on 4 November.

Regards,

That does partially make sense. Remember Fibrehoods is ultimately owned or connected to CSS tactical. we are clearly not a CSS suburb, and CSS are not going to partner with the competition. Security is as important to me as high speed internet, so I agree with them on that. Vulacom "seems" to have the right cred underneath them. but I agree, this is taking way longer than it should just to get the ball rolling. I have a business sin the area that I need to make decisions about urgently but I am loath to enter into any contracts with anyone given the uncertainty

There was a very vague mention of a meeting on the 4th of November. but nothing further

Yeah, the issue regarding security didn't make sense to me but it does now. Didn't realize CSS was a competitor to CAP. Seems odd that Fibrehoods should limit themselves to use one specific security company only?

Anyway... Might attend the public meeting November 4th....

Css, fibrehood all fall under the waterfall estate company. Something like that

Got this notice today...

Dear residents of Norwood, Orchards, The Gardens and Cheltondale,

You are reminded of the PUBLIC MEETING for THE CAP / NORA FIBRE TO THE HOME PROJECT.

DETAILS:

Date and Time: 18H00, Wednesday 4 November

Place: The Factory (above the Gallery)

Agenda:
• Context to the Fibre to the Home Initiative
• An introduction to Vulacom
• Proposed implementation approach and rollout plan
• Introduction to an integrated security solution

Css, fibrehood all fall under the waterfall estate company. Something like that

Yeah, "Fibrehoods is a joint venture between the Waterfall Investment Company and CSS Tactical". Public space surveillance for the area, fibre is there for the cameras, may as well connect it to the houses.

Maybe move this to 'fibre'?

SO typically, what would be the sort of questions one would ask at such a meeting?
