Vulacom

Fibrehoods is busy installing in Waverly. I drove past on my way home and even asked the guys if they are from Fibrehoods. So I'm sure Norwood is also coming.

Go to the fibrehood website. Nora is listed. I just registered my street and they confirm its covered. Prices are up and isp offerings too. Very decent.

Done!!

Awesome that's all but official!! Just a pity it's been such an arduous process.

Don'tcha love how it's announced as if they intended to do this all along? Like, no problem here, folks, nothing out of the ordinary, Vulacom just happens to now be 'migrating' everyone over to Fibrehoods. Sounds like SA politicians when caught doing wrong.

"Move along folks, nothing to see here"
lol
whats done is done, they must just get their A's into gear now.

Yeah. The notifications are coming thick and fast now. Cap, Nora, Vulacom etc

Would be nice to be up and running by the end of August latest but either way, not a train smash for me. LTE uncapped working very well for me.

whats streaming services like netflix like over lte. do you have a static ip?

Don't use Netflix or static ip. Kodi runs beautifully though. Everything really works well except for torrents. And of course the speeds do fluctuate according to the time of the day. Some guys see huge drop offs after 6pm but not in norwood. Pings are stable too. Seldom above 50ms to local servers.

Do a bit of xbox live and no issues there either. It really is a brilliant product at the price point. R599 on special.

good to know. even on 10meg adsl (7-8meg effective) i get mixed results on kodi, exodus plugin has better streams, but i still hit occasional buffer fest. but i think thats more *** server fault than *** internet.

I'm glad LTE works for you. I got the same product, am in Orchards, and experience ranges from okay to abysmal. Sometimes I get 28Mbps. other times it is so slow even the Telkom Mobile site won't load. Depends if neighbours decide to all watch YouTube at the same time. Nice when it works, but horribly temperamental. Can't wait to ditch it.

Yeah Kodi can be temperamental at times. I still download 90% of the content I consume but when I've had a need to stream it's worked well for me.

@dvd3232 you got the external antenna installed? Makes a huge difference!!

It's been relatively stable for me although I did have a week of downtime at the beginning of the month!! ️

Yip, I got the antenna. Truth is, it might take you from 2 to 3/4 bars on the Router, but it doesn't change how much demand is being pulled from one tower. If you're unfortunate enough to be on when 50 others are on, it's the worst Internet I've ever had - worse than 56k Dial-Up. At least with Fibre one doesn't have the same issues - to my knowledge. The Telkom tecchie who installed even had the gall to say "If I were in sales, I would never have approved this contract with these kind of speeds." :(

Found this in my email. This pretty much confirms it.

IMPORTANT NOTICE – NORA FIBRE PROJECT MIGRATION

Dear Resident,

CAP together with NORA have facilitated discussions between Fibrehoods and Vulacom where a successful agreement has been reached. Fibrehoods has successfully achieved a strong presence in suburbs neighbouring NORA and all parties believe, that NORA residents will be best served when connected to this established network.

Those residents that have previously signed up with Vulacom or expressed interest will automatically be migrated over to Fibrehoods. The existing ISP’s that have been marketing services in NORA will be added to the Fibrehoods offering and residents will be able to furthermore choose from a broader spectrum of service providers.

The targeted date for first home live is 31 July 2016 and it is anticipated that all homes and businesses will be passed by the Fibre network by 30 November 2016.

NORA residents are encouraged to follow the network deployment progress going forward on the Fibrehoods website: http://fibrehoods.co.za/index.php/my-hood/norwood-orchards-oaklands.
CAP together with NORA will regularly update residents as to the progress moving forward.

speaking to fibrehood guys, first home will be end of august. they only plan to break ground august 1st

id rather be a month behind, but the dates are realistic and kept, rather than always being missed without any feedback

well, I see guys on ladders putting clamps up on poles outside my office window, so at least there is some movement.
more than can be said for the previous guys so good news i guess

just a thought, since Vulacom no longer have anything to do with the fiber, and hopefully this install will be a going concern for many years going forward, i suggest we start a new clean thread for Fibre in Norwood (NORA), and park this one. Thread admin?
