Vuma Reach Phoenix Thread

Nah, they didnt damage my driveway at all. The pavement was neatly dug up as well. I was assured that it would be restored back to normal after they were done as well. The guys even took pictures before and after they started working
Nother quick.qiestion, what is difference bewteen Vuma reach and pure fibre apart from.speed and price. Is the network topolgy the same...IE the network design and implementation?

Not too sure if I can answer that question. But im pretty sure than the contention ratio is much higher. So E.G if 15 people on the street are hitting the network hard, then im pretty sure everyone connected to that same junction box will see some drop in performance be it ping or a speed drop.

I could be wrong though, if anyone has a proper answer you are welcome to correct me

Then this would imply some sort of splitter configuration and not dedicated fibre for each ERF...mmmm. if so, i don't want it. I wanna get what I pay for.....40/10

No, you will get your full speed.

Vuma Reach is a gpon rollout. There are more splits than Vuma core and that is simply because the max speed is 40Mbps on Vuma Reach where with Core it's up to 1Gbps so they have to plan the splits carefully to avoid congestion.

You still get your own fibre into the property and your own ONT and the ONT you get is not a cheap Vuma Reach version or anything the same ONT is being deployed for Vuma GPON in other regions like JHB that have Vuma Core coverage.

So far Vumatel has managed the VR network pretty well in reducing splits where congestion was an issue but I would say you should get your 40/10 most if not all the time.

You da expert. So tell me, what would they need to change in the event they offer lets say 100megs on vuma reach.

Also, i been checking across various vuma reach ISPs. I see they all speak about limited amount of devices, around 8 devices can be connected to the ONT. Why is that and, can i work around it as i have more than 8....big family

Run an ethernet cable from the ONT to a router with a WAN port. Problem sorted

That is a question only Vumatel can answer if they are every going to offer that. With a gpon you can reduce splits.

You can always add a wan router to LAN1 of the ONT. You will have a double nat situation so you would need to have the DMZ function set on the ONT to the WAN router.

Update:

Managed to pre order Vuma Reach on Afrihost. Fingers crossed now

Hi,

Great stuff. You can follow up with us as soon as the area goes live. These timelines usually change so for our system to keep track is a bit difficult sometimes.

If the area is accepting orders we can place that so long and send you the payment link for the order to be first in the queue when the area is marked as live.

Hi

they are currently trenching outside my house and on the website I see the area is accepting orders. Do you suggest I preorder as well now seeing as they are still trenching outside my house so i can also be in the front of the queue or do I wait for them to complete then order. I am also going with Afrihost.

Thanks
