Hi all

Web Africa were in our area canvassing customers, I jumped immediately, and signed an offer for a 20mb fibre service for now.
Apparantly our area is going to use Vumatel infrastructure, however they are yet to put in Fiber in our area, they have said although it's imminent, they can't give me an exact time-lime of when they will start putting the Fibre on the poles, and Telkom's ADSL in our area is a constant headache, whenever it seems to rain, our ADSL is rendered nearly unusable.

Please if anybody from Vumatel, or knowledge of the installation of Fibre know, when they will be installing Fibre infrastructure in Sprigg Rd, Rondebosch East, Cape Town, please can you let me know.

We are all awaiting for Fibre, the day it's actived in our area, I cannot wait to be rid of Telkom once and for all.

We will appreciate this greatly.

Thanks

You share your name with @PBCool. :D

I can't give you better details, than saying, when they were canvassing in our area, it took 3 months and then we had fibre. Also, it depends on the interest in your area as well.

I'm in the same boat with horrible ADSL performance. Just on the other side of the train line from you. St. Kilda Rd.

We've already had a visit from the Vumatel rep about two weeks ago collecting names & signatures, but no news after that. I've also emailed Vumatel support, but no response since yesterday morning... And I've also received an email in January from Vumatel that they're installing fibre soon. :(

Edit: if you get any news, will you let me know?

I finally got an answer from Vumatel, @PaulB_ So it looks like your area will be completed around May/June & then they'll start with us :D

Good Morning ,

Thank you for your mail.

Coming to Lansdowne is indeed our plan. We are currently completing our rollout in Mowbray/Rosebank and will then be moving into Rondebosch East and Sybrand park, once we have completed this area we will then be moving to Lansdowne and Kenwyn.

Our current indicative projection is to start in your area by mid-July.

Please do let me know if you have any queries with which i can assist.

Have a great day further.

Ha. They haven't started and they say they'll be completed by May/June?? Seriously don't hold your breath.
They started aerial fibre installation in our area in November. They said it would be completed in 6 weeks.
Well it's 6 months later and still no-one has fibre. I can see it all - it 'looks' done but it's all dark. Extremely frustrating.
If they are trenching in your area then it will take even longer. Sorry for the buzzkill.

I know. lol. But at least it's some news. Openserve took almost an entire year to complete from Kromboom rd to Lawson rd.

Yup. They said there was some connection problem that they would sort out over a couple of days. Then the first houses would be connected. That was two weeks ago. No one is connected yet.
Although they said two complexes had already gone live. That was news to me. I haven't heard anyone confirm that through.

I see Obs just went fibre ready on Vuma's website. Did they sort you out?

Well I've pre-ordered (ages ago) and I haven't heard from them.
However, this seems to be a new development so I'm going to re-send my usual barrage of emails and hassle them on twitter again:D
