VW Golf 7

So the replacement 1.4 TSI Highline is less powerful than the existing model?

Also, R330k is a bit steep for a non-GTI+ Golf.

Car weighs 100Kg less than Golf 6, so less power still means similar performance for Golf 7.

Still, it wasn't necessary to reduce power. One would expect at least the same output for a next generation car.

I might be wrong but the old 1.4 TSI Highline had the supercharger as well as teh turbo. VW ditched the supercharger and now its just a bigger turbo.
Probably explains the lower power output.

I cant believe they reduced the power on the 1.4 TSi highline. Maybe this will mean more buyers for the Gti.

Let me guess....the bluetooth carkit connectivity is still a DIY jobbie, or (insert obscure amount here) a few thousand.

Maybe the multi-fuction steering wheel is free now? Or is it still R1000 extra?

The supercharger only provided boost on the low end. As soon as you got up a bit in revs, the turbo would take over.

I suspect they detuned it a bit to increase reliability.

It's pretty much the same engine in the Polo GTI though, where it produces much more power.

As an assistant editor for one of SAs premier car magazines, surely he should have a decent cellphone with a decent camera?
Also, who are the people that will buy the "standard" GTi compared to the performance version?

Its the same thing with the Standard Gti and the ED 35 and ST 1 and ST3. The standard one will be cheaper. I am also dissapointed at these poor quality "spy" pics.

Strains of Polo/Jetta in the front. Could the design be any more unsurprising? I suppose that is what the Volkswagen fans like though.

They can't completely change the brands identity. It's a Golf... A Golf looks like a Golf. The same as a BMW looks like a BMW, and a Merc a Merc.

They'll be stupid to radically shift away from the style that identifies a vehicle.

Multi function steering wheel was standard on all 6's...

Prices:

1.2 TSI Trendline (77 kW) - R233 800
1.4 TSI Trendline (90 kW) - R246 700

1.4 TSI Comfortline (90 kW) - R264 900
1.4 TSI Comfortline (90 kW DSG) - R279 400
2.0 TDI Comfortline (81kW) - R282 300

1.4 TSI Highline (103 kW) - R293 600
2.0 TDI Highline (110 kW DSG) - R334 800

I'd get a new 1 series rather for that money. The BMW will probably have more expensive options but I'd hazard a guess they both come equally equipped as standard as VW are snoep. Plus with the BMW you are getting more power, RWD and a full motorplan as standard. Can't beat that.

R233K for a car which not only doesn't have aircon as std but it's not available. KIA and Hyundai are much better options than this rip-off and I truly hope the likes of VW and Toyota lose huge market share due to their ridiculous pricing and where everything is an optional extra.
There are IMO only very few vehicles I would buy from VW (if I was willing to splash out extra)
VW - Toureg
Toyota - Any one of their Double Cabs/SUV's

Neither VW or Toyota ware worth the money when it comes to sedans.

According to their spec leaflet the Highline does come with a Supercharger.

All models come with Climatic Air Con as standard, check out the spec leaflet in my above link.

Yeah where the hell did you get the idea it doesn't have aircon?

Does ANYONE make a car without aircon any more?

Air conditioning was optional for Golf 5 Trendline models.

Hopefully it has changed now.
