VW Polo 1.9TDI (gearbox?) problems

I drive a 2007 VW Polo 1.9TDI.

Currently while driving, when I start to put my foot down (accelerator pedal halfway) the engine will rev as if it is in neutral. If I slack off slightly the revs drop back to normal and the car goes in gear again. Note: This is a manual gearbox, it shouldn't happen.
It has previously happened only on occasion, but at the moment it happens too much and it happens mostly when the engine has been run warm (90C). Also happens mostly when I shift into 3rd gear, but it happens in all gears. Quite a big problem since I sometimes need to accelerate to avoid something and then suddenly I'm going nowhere.

What could cause this? Car now has 188000km on the clock.

Any help/advice would be appreciated.

I would fix ASAP. You don't want to be stuck when the clutch finally packs up completely.

I am lucky enough to have a very good mechanic friend. I just buy the clutch kit and he replaces free of charge for me. Clutch kit is about R1500 for the TDi. If really bad you need to replace the flywheel too. Add another R3000 for that.

No clue what a stealership will rip you off for clutch replacement.

According to the interwebz VW dealership would charge R20k+.

Going to take the car to Carnetics in Centurion. They do a really good job and they don't dent your wallet that badly.
 
Clutch itself is slipping, or if you are lucky just needs adjustment.
 
Get it fixed soon or you the clutch may heat up and mess up the duel mass flywheel. I just fixed the clutch and flywheel on my 1.9 TDI for R8.8k ...ouch

The Polo has a self adjusting clutch. It needs to be replaced.

@OP - replace the clutch as soon as you can. A good VW specialist garage will probably do it for around R4-5k.
 
like everyone else said, clutch is slipping, the dual mass fly wheel costs more than the clutch, hopefully you didn't damage it otherwise you would have to replace that too
 
It's recommended to replace the dual mas flywheel when you replace the clutch. Changing just the one will end up with you having to replace both quite soon anyway.
I'm almost in the same situation, clutch kit for my tdci is about 4k, dual mass flywheel is about 12k, labour is about 3k. FML

I'm guessing that's from VW agents and not a third party?

Not a change I would be paying that kind of money for a job like this on a Polo. Besides what kind of mileage are we talking about here? Please tell me it reached 150 k at the very least.

That definitely seems to be VW agent prices...
 
Get pricing on parts from places like Goldwagen.
And then take it to a Bosch garage if you don't have any other trustworthy places to go
