Well, remember that up until a while ago, the DA was very much a minority party in the Western Cape, with little say in what went on. Because the ANC monopolises politics in this country, opposition parties have very little opportunity to engage with governmental issues.

It's inevitable that the DA would have trouble finding appropriate people to fill every job. The fact that the new Education MEC needed to read up on the DA's education policy just goes to prove that.

Saying that the DA also needs to make sure that its tiny pool of talent also needs to be representative and that it also needs to deliver high quality service and also needs to be a formidable opposition to the ANC rather than just an annoyance ... I mean, phew. Cut the guys a bit of slack, would you?

Of course, it would have been lovely if old Helen could have made that point instead of pointing out the gross hypocrisy displayed by the ANC and the Inkwenks... so as usual, it's just another case of no-one being completely wrong and no-one being completely right.

I have so far agreed 100% with Zille she is using the ANC's tactics not to impress the "educated" but the less sophisticated bunch in S.A the D.A is trying to balance winning votes from people who think* differently from the upper/middle-class and believe it or not maturity is not something that comes with age.

The ANC supporters IMO are mostly* immature like their party and mudslinging (who has the best come back, is the winner) proves to the rural folk who is the most intellectual, think of your school days. A lot of people did not have the privilege to even go to school to learn things like maturity so they never developed it for a debating sense. I might not fully understand to why these guys make their squab lings publicly known other than to impress the mass that sees the best mudslinger as the superior one?

The D.A needs to win votes from different people but remember it is easier to appeal to masses than convince them. The thing is the D.A needs to take ANC voters to overtake the ANC and if playing childish games like mudslinging to have the best come back proves your superiority to the masses then so be it. D.A’s 1st goal is over take ANC before they can start nation building because if they don’t win the ANC it does not matter how fair and righteous they are.

I also like to know WHY PEOPLE NEED TO BE REPRESENTED BY SOME ONE LIKE THEM (race,sex and so) That is STUPID beyond reasoning this whole thing that a man can not fight for a women's rights is SEXIST, a white man CAN NOT FIGHT FOR A BLACK man's rights is RACIST, yet no one seems to care or notice!

This must end really. PLEASE exsplain to me how it it is not racist or sexist to be only represented by your own kind that is so misguided idiocy it makes me wonder if I should hand out the darwin award to the ANC and to the D.A for not pointing that out in their come backs because they are shooting them self's in the boot.

In all fairness, if the DA wanted to win over the ANC supporters, pointing fngers at their hero Zuma is hardly the way to go about it ....is it? So if that is the strategy they have adopted that's not very clever at all. All it does is give the ANC supporters more reason to hate the DA and more reason to never vote DA.

We live in a rainbow nation and people want to see this representation in parliament. Nobody is saying that a man can't fight for women's rights. But at the end of the day people will always critisize politicians as South Africa is full of armchair critics.
 
Zille is my hero *blush* untill she fracks up... so I assume they think pointing out errors will help? Depends on how you look at it some people see no evil in their hero I see no evil till I hear about it. Maybe jungleboy can tell us what he thinks of his hero zuma?
 
Indeed. South Africans are very good at putting blinkers on and ignoring what's right in their faces.

Its rather mind boggling sometimes. The anc has brought these good liberal institutions and regulations to our 'verkrampte' christian white ruled society..

But when these organisations fail so epicly one begin to wonder why they had even bothered in the first place? Giving rights to women probably wouldn't sit to well with alot of tribal men.

So my guess would be they must be trying to impress some people internationally(english who aided them in the struggle?) Since if they had done nothing I can't see who would have criticised them within south africa(atleast not from the anc camp)

Spokesperson Wilfred Solomons-Johannes said people started gathering from 04:00 on the N2 highway, throwing stones at passing vehicles.

He said police fired rubber bullets to disperse the crowd.

The highway was closed in both directions, between the Mew Way and Duynefontein offramps.

Motorists were being diverted onto the R300.

The highway was being cleared of debris and likely to be re-opened at 08:00.

The police were not immediately available for comment.

They should use rubber bullets for the first few of these... then switch to live ammo in my opinion.

If you want to be a prat and screw things up for the rest of the population... be prepared to have live rounds coming your way.
 
Nah, those supposed protesters are just puppets. I don't agree with shooting them - you can't turn weapons on to your own citizens, even if you disagree with their methods. Round up the Yoof League tossers reponsible for organising this though, and put some lead between their eyes, for sure...
