Hey,

How aggressive is AVG? I am looking for an anti-virus that's aggressive but takes the least resources.
Can you recommend this and where can i download it with my SLOW connection.... ;)

gabbadude!

Sorry I have not been hare for a while but AVG was rated higher than Norton and I have to say I don't know how aggressive it is but I have had no problems and it uses almost no resources. You should find it here www.grisoft.com but I was just there and didn't see it. If you can't find it and wanna give it a try I can send it to you via skype. It's only about 10MB.

Here is a link to reviews. Look where Norton is.
http://anti-virus-software-review.toptenreviews.com/

The review is for version 8. The free version is always one version behind so it is version 7. When Grisoft release the new Pro version of the software (v8) the previous pro version becomes free (v7).

So - my fellow UUnet users - how are you finding p2p, including, but not limited to, BT this weekend?

I did read on UUNet's boards that Telkom was doing some ATM work so that could be affecting things for UUNet and Telkom users.

everything works in a normal range with me....

but there is a rumour which says uncapped services will be done away with by the end of this month.

So... Now we're going to go through the entire debacle with AfriHost again??? Selling uncapped accounts and then all of a sudden they are actually capped accounts??

the worse thing I notice at, most likely cause of the ATM work, saix to uunet peering is very unreliable.. Im sure it will be fixed after the upgrade.

Actually I can believe it seeing as at the moment they "claim" not to be able to differentiate between the current line speeds. Obviously at the current time this is to their advantage (192 users paying the same as 512 users) but with the 1mbs service being implemented soon it would seriously damage them unless they drastically increased their bandwidth.

so the guys with 192 are downloading as fast as 512 or 384? i doubt that is true

Er no, the point bwana is making is that 192k users are less of a strain on UUNET's bandwidth even though they're paying the same price as 512k users. Now if there is a sudden influx of 1mbit users it would put a huge strain on the network as they would use twice as much bandwidth as 512k users and 5 times more than 192k users.

uunet cant handle 1mb line that is for sure i dont think they would allow ppl with a 1mb line to sign up although they let home users sign so maybe, they dont think further than ally mcbeal's nose (nothing wrong her nose its kinda sexy i think hmmmm)

Personally I think UUNET should look into speed specific packages from 64kb/s up to 1 mbit so the customer has a choice. Why 64kb/s? Well small companies could host basic web and mail servers on their 192k line. They may also not require 192k for their web surfing needs and don't want to worry about hitting a cap.

I agree, speed specific uncapped packages tho. We have an uncapped movement now, to retrench this and go back to a certain amount of bandwidth would just be killing a allmost 100% realised dream.

Sorry guys I got this from a sales rep at SAOL....

yes SAOL wont offer uncapped nemore, got nothing to do with uunet uncapped offering.

You can go and read on their offerings page, I also posted about this while ago, they now offer 21gig for R1700 / month.

ie. this has nothing to do with uunet.
