Don't hold your breath for LLU -it will take up to 5 years.

I doubt that there will EVER be truly afordable uncapped internet in this country!! Its a disgrace.

I think it would be better to get a job overseas live a crime free life and enjoy fast internet than live here a crime infested life where your internet connection is more expensive than a holliday!

LLU maybe be earmarked for 2011 but unless the new minister sets heavy penalties for Telkom i think it will be dragged on till 2015 easily.. maybe even 2020 to complete. Someone needs to remind him now while there is still a yr left so Telkom can't claim they didn't know

So among 12 countries vying for a slice of the pie South and Nigeria get priority. There is still no mention of exactly how much lands in South Africa. And whatever lands get split up again for the 5 contenders. And then you got to hope for all your worth that we don't screwed for every last penny to enjoy and benefit from this.

Let's put it this way, I am being forced to learn to appreciate my 384 line. At least allows me to browse heartwarming stories such as this. :rolleyes:

The design capacity of the cable system is set at 3.84Tb/s, with talk of over 5Tb/s being viable in future. This dwarfs other cables such as SAT3 (340Gb/s), SAFE (440Gb/s), SEACOM (1.28Tb/s) and EASSy (1.4Tb/s) - which when combined offer nearly 2.7Tb/s, well under the minimum capacity of WACS.

Factually incorrect. SAT3&SAFE are not running at full capacity. The cables can be upgraded to the Terabit range with adding more lambdas. The same goes for most FO cables.
 
and no good / decent / up to date infrastructure to bring it to your house....residential deployment is way down on the bottom of the priority list for most telco companies...there us no money in it.... business 101.

Welllll IF they not going to sell it to the residential consumer WHO they going to sell it to -- and HOW they gonna make their money :confused:

OK - how are all these lines going to make money? Only way is through drastic increase in bandwidth use.... Uncapped for all :D
