WACS cable break - Slow SA Internet speeds

There has been a break on the WACS (West Africa Cable System) undersea cable which is affecting Internet connectivity in South Africa.

According to a post by TENET, the operating partner of the South African national research and education network, WACS capacity dropped at 23:28 last night.

SAT3 and WACS at the same time again? the ship is still out there repairing the new SAT3 fault

Most of my online gaming is ****ed. Unplayable with 300-1200ms latency on ADSL. (Telkom ISP / Afrihost ISP)

Youtube and video streaming works somewhat.

Fun tymz

When downloading proves to be safer than relying on streaming...

How can they not know where the 'SV8 Cable Landing Station' is?

Any suggestions on which ISP to use for online gaming that has decent international latency?

You on OpenServe? Try afrihost they have bandwidth on SAFE

I'm using my backup 50Gb unshaped capped account from Afrihost. No difference yet sadly - PoE / Battle.net still unplayable with a latency graph spikier than a 13 year old boys gelled hair.
