There you go!

I guess this it like anything these days, all getting smaller, less for more.
Like coke changing their cans from 340ml to 330ml, all gold from 750ml to 700ml, Cadbury slabs from 100g to 90g, soap bars from 100g to 90g, and so the list goes on....
The problem is once Rudi left Mweb, they'd already hooked 300 000 customers. Now this new wonder child is aiming at improving reliability and profitability.
I dont know if you noticed, once Telkom introduced the 4mb uncapped basic account Mweb responded within a week with a 4mb basic account. I've got a friend a couple of houses down from me that switched from the 4mb Premium account with Mweb which is +- R200 p/m more exp to the Telkom 4mb uncapped basic. He has been using it for +- 3 months and its flying day and night. Im on a Mweb Premium account which ive cancelled this month but given their T+C's i have to wait 30 days for cancellation.
What we as consumers dont realise is that effectively we control the prices, should we all jump ship to Afrihost/Telkom/whoever else you deem a better option, this new ginger for a CEO will be forced to introduce better priced packages, the previous IPC cut was not fully absorbed in the packages that were offered, which means they have room atm to further reduce pricing. Also with further IPC cuts coming in future they will have even more room.
So jump ship and force them to compete with more competitive packages and once the ginger decides to play balls jump ship again. This process will be rinsed and repeated until these idiots are forced to internationally market related prices and we can at the end of the day benefit.
Those laughing at the first batch of folks who got letters shouldn't laugh too hard..
Come on people it's not 2003 anymore, they're not the only uncapped provider and not the cheapest either so have no hold over you.
Unfortunately due to the interesting timing of their email, some of us are stuck with them until the end of September. Far too long as far I'm concerned. I no longer want anything to do with the company.
This is exactly why you keep your line with Telkom, if your ISP goes mental like MWEB just did you send them a dear john email and move on. Come on people it's not 2003 anymore, they're not the only uncapped provider and not the cheapest either so have no hold over you. Vote with your wallet and laugh at them from the other side.

Just got this off their Facebook page.

The block in the top right hand corner titled "Throttling." Anyone with a legal background who can comment on whether we would have to wait 30 days to cancel given that when we signed up, we were told that there would be no throttling?

This one for the Network Engineers(I guess):
If we are talking +-300 000 subscribers, can the 9000(3%) "abusive" subscribers adversely affect the other 291 000 subscribers to warrant them getting these letters(given MWEB's IPC pipe)? I'm assuming they are all on 10Mbps and running their lines 24/7(24 300TB/Month?).
How did they come up with "3%"?
The poll on MyBB home page shows the following as at 12 Aug 2013, 16:05 made up of a sample of 1658 votes:
0GB > 50GB - 35 %
50GB > 100 GB - 28%
100GB > 200 GB - 21%
200GB > 500GB - 12%
More than 500GB - 4%
I do an average of around 120GB a month. That firmly places me in the 21% bracket, or at the bottom end of the 37% who use more than 100GB a month.
I realize that the poll I'm referring to includes a user base consisting of various ISP's and line speeds, so it won't be completely accurate when compared to Mweb's stats alone, but surely a similar breakdown can be expected?
In fact, the poll would include both capped and uncapped users, so if you were to extrapolate further and remove the capped users, you would surely find a different result pointing towards much higher usage.
Anyway, any recommendations for a new ISP?
Thank you for contacting us.
This part of applying the MWEB Acceptable Use Policy is definitely not something that our team looks forward to or enjoys. Nevertheless, all MWEB products are subject to the AUP and network abuse by a small percentage of the base has made these actions necessary.
The Acceptable Use Policy is not changing, but new measures will be implemented to enforce the policy from 01 September 2013. This process is not managed via the MWEB Abuse & Security Team.
The email you received was to notify you that, based on your usage trends in recent months, it is highly likely that you will affected by the new automated temporary speed limits we are putting in place to limit abuse on our network.
A small percentage of our users consume excessive amounts of data which has a negative impact of MWEB’s network performance. MWEB will be actively managing the bandwidth consumption of this small group of users who are abusing our premium ADSL products. This is to ensure that all users receive a fair and favourable experience on our network.
We will do this by temporarily imposing a speed limit on users who are consistently exceeding reasonable usage levels. This will be calculated on a daily basis and will measure usage in a 30 day rolling window. We would like to stress that this is not imposing a cap on the service as usage will continue at a reduced speed. We would also like to stress that the limits being imposed are designed to specifically target a very small percentage of abusers and do not alter the fact that this is still a premium service.
We will do this by temporarily imposing a speed limit on users who are consistently exceeding reasonable usage levels.
So what will the speed limit be ?
