I recieved an email this morning, it was automatically in my Junk folder but to those of you who don't have some sort of spam block on your email, have a good look at this.

The email read:

Attention!

Dear customers,
In connection with the transition to the new server your previously saved data on your online account were deleted. We kindly ask you to run a retrieving process in order to fix this error. You will be require to enter your Profile Number, PIN and Password. Failure to do this the access to internet-banking system will be blocked by the Automatic program server.

It was from the address [email protected]

The REAL website looks like this:

On the fake website I put in fake deatils (Profile number, PIN and password) it went through sucessfully. They are obviously building a database..

BE CAREFUL!! I hope I helped someone :)

Damn, and here I've been updating my details, unlocking my account and making sure I don't get funny debit orders by filling in hundreds of these things every day!

Only 0.001% of myBB members would fall for this, like this rorz0r dude who's probably faking. I mean duh this is so prevalent...

There was a story here in Mybb a few weeks ago of a senior citizen that got swindled out of her entire pension by scams like this. Ouch.

That was brave. And inventive. But now they have your IP and know where you live...

Good post, a lot more people get scammed like this on a daily basis than we believe.

There is a reason why they continue to send these emails every damn year, that stuff really does work, sadly thousands of people do get robbed by blindly clicking email links.

Next-time don't even click the link that says "Click Here" to continue, most of them still try to cookie snuff you straight from the link alone, this is easy with JavaScript etc.

Always type in the address bar link yourself when it concerns banks!

how many of those would be mybb users?

Quite a lot actually. You have to remember, MyBB does not only attract IT proffesionals, no way. It attracts all kinds of people who want to know more about South African and broadband, deals, etc...and the majority of these people do not know everything about internet security.

With that said, if you look at the online list, 950 guests online on mybb forums -- It would be fair guess to say at least 50 people would have been tricked if they viewed the email.

Probably mean "cookie stuff" and you don't need javascript to do that. ;)

Is there a problem with creating awareness?
Google brings up the MYBB forum very often when searching about almost any topic.
So I dont see no harm in a thread like this. This thread might save someone alot of grief.
