OMG .... if I had to use a paper map I would be totally screwed.

When we were on a "survival camp" somewhere close to Augrabies waterfalls we had to learn how to use a compass and navigate to certain points. Thank god we were devided into groups. I just ran after the other kids otherwise I might still be dwelling in the kalahari gemsbok park somewhere.

Get address.
Fire up Google maps (spits)
Plot route
Memorise
And off you go...
 
Waze if i know where I am going, Google Maps if i dont. If Waze has freeway exit number support I would probably use it exclusively.
 
Waze kills my battery in no time so I stick with Google maps

This!

Google Maps is much easier to use when trying to find a new place, Waze sucks in this regard. The updates and traffic / incident reporting rocks in Waze though.
 
I use maps.me for iOS, is getting better, completely off-line, frequently updated. Now it can trace a route, but this feature needs some improvements (alternative route, rerouting). If you want voice navigation, must look elsewere.
No Google, no Waze, so voting for Ockie Love Shack. ;)

Tried them all - settled on Here maps with the Afrikaans auntie telling me where to go ;-)
 
I have a WIFE .... It knows more than Google et al.

Not only does the WIFE app know the shortest and safest route, it adds tips to the experience, like, when you drive too fast, or it asks you questions and (usually) corrects you if you are right.
 
Why on earth would anyone use Google Nav, Waze or Apple Maps when they can use Here Drive+? Best maps. Offline, so no data usage. Traffic, etc. Android. IOS. WP (included free). Small payment gives me the latest offline maps for the entire planet, for life.

If you save an address on google maps using your pc then it syncs to the phone immediately which is.. nice.

Other than that I use my epic sense of direction... which gets me lost 80% of the time
 
Waze. Hands down for me. Google gave me issues. I switched and never regretted it.
 
If you travel often, like I do, then you need a dedicated navigation device with traffic capabilities. I use a Tomtom Go and it works brilliantly in directecting me around traffic.

If you don't travel often then any of the above suggested apps should suffice. I've tried them all and they can't compare to my tomtom when it comes to avoiding traffic. You can also try Sygic.
 
Apple Maps has become very decent over time and also saves more battery than the rest if you lock the screen on your iOS device.

But I also have Here Maps installed as the only true GPS that uses offline maps. If I upgrade my phone will put the old one in the car with Here.

Maps is fantastic but I almost only use Waze (for on the road info).
 
Waze is useless in PE, tried it once or twice just for fun but there where like 2 other wazers running it in PE so it felt a bit silly. Mind you not that I need a GPS in PE. :p

When travelling in and around Cape Town or Joburg I usually use Google nav, it's always worked pretty good for me. It was also very useful in January when I was in Venice, the place is like a maze.
I've also made use of an android app called simply "Navigator" a few times, it's primary benefit being pre-downloaded maps, decentish backup when there is no data signal.
