In case anyone is planning on purchasing a My Cloud device, best read the WD forums before you buy it. Wish I'd done that...alas what's done is done. Hoping Takealot will allow me to return it for something else given that I've had it for just under 2 weeks. 
Basically the issue is that this device will "disappear" off the network and the only way to get it back is to unplug the power cable, wait a bit, then plug it back in. WD seems to know about this issue since late 2013 and have been releasing firmware updates ever since, no luck.
Some guys have resorted to writing cron jobs to run every minute just to keep the device "awake".
Others have assigned static IP addresses but the non-techie me hasn't tried that yet. Some of the forum discussions and frustrated users:
