I'm going to get me one of the Droid players, but in the mean time I managed to grab my brothers WD TV live Hub as he wasnt making use of it.

I plugged in my 2.5 inch 640GB transcend drive, which is self powered, and the player took a while but located the drive and could play the files off it. Fine no problem.

I then plugged in my 3.5 inch 1TB LG hard drive, but the media player just would not detect it. The Drive is not self powered, so I don't know if the media player is fussy over that, or that it might be an LG drive, which would be strange if that was the case.

I'm sure the Live Hub is okay with at least 1TB drive, right?

So I'm not sure if I should check if there might be a firmware update etc, or try and reset the player. Anybody with a similar media player, or a WD one that have faced the same issues?

Thanks

I'm more interested in the Droid players you are considering.

I own a WD TV LIVE but never had issues like that. Doubt it is the make of the drive. Is the drive using NTFS or FAT32 or something else?

Do the firmware update anyway.

Both my drives are ntfs, and it is strange as my Mede8er had no issues picking up the drive.

Not sure on the Droid players yet, but will go with AV supply, and possibly the MX3 or one that Jaque of AV supply suggested might be under 1k

Why would it struggle with a drive that is powered by a power supply? I've not seen anywhere where it says that the WD can only handle self powered drives.

Ok maybe I'm confused here. My 3.5 is the one not being detected, which the hard drive that i to plug into a wall outlet. The 2.5 is just plug and play, and the media player picks it up fine.

@Icemanbrfc: Here are some more details about that <R1000 S805 based player that AVSupply will be selling shortly. It's a good buy if you are on a tight budget.

You sure the USB port is not malfunctioning? (I'm assuming you have two ports as well).

Both HDDs USB2/3?

Usb ports definately working. Plugged the 2.5 in on both the back and front ones, and they work fine.

Okay so now I'm convinced, that WD is fussy over this 1TB LG drive. Plugged the drive into my ps3, and it immediately detected it, no issues. I know it's not the ports either of the WD, as the 2.5 inch works on both the front and back ones.

That is one of things I'm going to check up on ITCynic... I am convinced that my drive is beginning to fail, as my son at one point knocked it. I don't hear any clicking noises though, and plugging into my PS3 it shows up within seconds. Does WD TV look at a drive in a different way than say a ps3 or PC?

Not sure. I think the WD is Linux based, not sure what the PS3 OS is.

Had the same issue but was due to all my hdd's being formatted to exFAT.

my drive wouldnt be formatted to exFat though.. i have HD files that are bigger than 4GB, unless exFat allows for files bigger than 4GB?

on a separate note, does anybody know how often they update apps or add more apps? At the moment, the only online content worth visiting is Youtube... the rest are pretty poor.

as an example, i went onto the Redbull channel, but nothing new has been added. Is this a WD thing, or the people who control the apps themselves?

Hemps, would you know? is there a way to add apps etc manually via (i know i shouldnt ask this) but through another route, either to trick the player into thinking im say in the UK or US?

exFAT allows large files, I have over 45GB mkv's stored.

WD updates are not very frequent, I find the player to be behind times and very sluggish compared to a DroidTV.

You can always try these guys - http://forum.wdlxtv.com/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=8707

I have a WD TV Live hub with a 1gig and a 2 gig drive connected. Both external drives have their own 12v power. I had an issue with an incorrect format drive and saw the issue show up after connecting to the WDTV management web page. It saw the drive but did not mount it. If you are happy to poke around the device you can telnet into it and check the device tree.
