We will lay cable, says Neotel

...and nary a peep from telkom...

I've seen Telkom laying fiber along the N4 during 1999-2000 - any idea what it was for?

Neotel is still experiencing growing pains. A recurring issue is that the handset it has designed for households cannot be connected to a standard Ethernet cable.

 Somebody slipped up badly with that...

Now how do I ask them to lay fibre to my house?

Its nice to finally see a number in terms of how many base stations they have up and running...

62 is alot less than I expected to be honest.

In this day and age with consumers getting a lot wiser in terms of connectivity, who in their right minds designs a device with no ethernet port? Were they designed by a guy who has been in a cave since win98 was launched? I mean really. That point alone has left a seriously bad taste in my mouth and makes me seriously think that they are a bad idea in terms of a provider of telecoms.

are you sure it was Telkom? The fibre along the highways are to provide transmission for all those new big brother traffic security cams...among other things.

Probably left the research to be done by a windoze boffin...

Ya, it was Telkom. The contractor whom I spoke to said it was for telkom.

All of this is good and well - they should just inform clients that if they want to make any international calls, they'll have to cough up a deposit first.

Two sides to every coin (operator)...

I don't care what they do... as long as we have the three d's at the end of the day. d_service, d_broadband, d_prices....

I love triple D's.

I'll take a 34 DDD thanks. :D

HE WHO CONTROLS THE CABLE, CONTROLS DUNE....

THE DATA MUST FLOW!

may the great Throughput in the sky watch over house neotel...

I thought Neotel had exclusive use of Infraco's national fibre network. Whatever happened with that?

Does this apply to all customers or only those with bad credit ratings? Seems pretty reasonable to ask for a deposit if the person won't be able to pay for the calls...

lol give me some fibre and a neotel spade and ill lay my own in front of my house

This is excellent news, let us hope that it will happen sooner rather than later.
