Arrrrggggg! I'm so glad someone has bought attention to this horrible upgrade that weathersa has undertaken! As a regular weathersa user, I noticed the planned upgrade a few weeks ago and straight away emailed the webmaster, complaining that the new design went against all that was good about the old design! I loved the simple and informative design that it used previously and cannot understand why they would move from it?! Naturally, I received no reply from the webmaster :(
 
it's ugly, but getting the basic temperature for today and tomorrow is much quicker now so I'm happy.
 
I have tried to use it, but I keep reverting to the old, clean, simple design. The new design is way too flashy - worst of all it is designed for a low-resolution screen and with all the flashy popups it occupies under 50% of my screen. The web designers should have concentrated on giving users the information they want as efficiently as possible.
 
I understand splitting the minimum and maximum temperatures. Except I find the font and the font's color difficult to read.
 
I still like it. The graphical temperature and rainfall distribution is 10 x better than the text on the old site and the information is up to date (unlike the old site). I don't have to read a page of weather summary concerning the whole country if I only want info on Jo'burg. The new storm tracking feature is brilliant, actual weather, not predictions. (although the oke who said it was going to be updated at 15 minute intervals lied, it only updates hourly - but its still very useful.) I'm sticking to the new site, I think it's much better than the old one.
 
I like the map, and being able to see countrywide information and then zoom in. But lose the nasty menu now. Improve the navigation, give me a block where I customise information I want to see when I log in. The the site will be great!

and the old site is better how?
this new site looks alright - easy to get the wheather & it's quite fast too for a map.
 
Some of the graphics are difficult to read on a less than excellent screen.

The designers forgot the primary purpose of such a website: To make information available in an easily accessible way.

I still prefer the old site - it's fuctionality is excellent compared to the new site.
 
don't you guys know that complex is the new simple ? who am I trying to kid..its awful. It must been designed by programmers...
 
I agree, I think flashy graphics took precedence over usability. It took me 15 minutes to figure out how to get a 7-day forecast..
 
Consider it 15 minutes well spent.

Why exactly does the author of the article want to know the weather in every city in the country. He obviously needs some water cooler conversation material.

People who NEED to know the weather will spend the time getting to know the site, lock down their personal home page and get what they want quicker than the old site.

Maybe they should have an idiot button, which gives a minimum of information up front, and an expert button to give the rest of us the website as it is now.

The weather is a naturally complex science, and in order to get maximum use out of a site like this takes effort, not just to get the hang of the site, but the terminology, prediction models and local variances. For those of you looking for weather made simple, look out the window.

Shame on the guy/girl that created that monstrosity............some one has to answer for that I'm sure. How would that be giving the go ahead to become live ROFL Sad plain sad.............
 
This is a great example of a dev team being let loose on a problem and developing their own solution right up to the end, rather than getting as much user feedback as possible into the dev process as early as possible. Classic waterfall fail.
 
The buttons on the Left NAV is ilegible on my 22" LCD screen and everything elso is so small - I think this site was designed to show best at low resolution or the designers stil use VGA monitors
 
No, too flashy all I want from a weather site is information on the weather. Not over kill. Geez

Fully agree. I can't even read the buttons on the left. Also, when I eventually get to a page with weather info for a city, it has horisontal scroll bars, a big no-no (because if you can't see the important info at first glance, there's no point in staying on the page). They simply should have spent more time just following some standard web usability guidelines (and it's freely available online) and the functionality of the site would have improved dramatically.
 
Living on the coast I'll admit that wind is one of the things I care about the most.
That's why I really like www.windguru.com and www.windfinder.com

Not only does it give wind, but temps, cloud cover and rain.
The layout these sites use just make way more sense to me.
The wind forecasting is generally very accurate but the temps I use more as a guide.
