Web Africa ADSL general feedback

Then how come, on three stars only, you throttle me so badly I can barely load Facebook? So what is one star like? No Internet at all???

Hi Spooner,

Can you PM me your customer so I can get our Network team to take a look as you should be able to browse albeit a bit slower but should still be accessible.

howz these tossers from webafrica...18gb for the month which is such a small amount of downloaded data...and i only download on weekends...dropped from 5 stars to 3.WTF is the point of having an uncapped account.Webafrica is the jacob zuma of isp's

What type of uncapped account do you have 1/2/4/10mbs? Like Tinuva stated that you will need to schedule your downloads for DL+ hours to drop back down.

As per my reply to 'Spooner' here our uncapped accounts were designed so that all/most downloads must take place between DL+ so that it does not affect your quality of service.

how is webafrica's streaming on twitch?

I will be switching to webafrica on the 1st November.
Do I just need to signup on the website, choose package and setup a debit order?

Hi Fatality07,

Great news hearing you have chosen us as your ISP. What type of account you looking at? This will determine the quality of streaming but overall its good especially on a capped or even uncapped as long as you are not a 3-star or less.

You can sign up via our website and insert either debit order or credit card payment method. If you would like I can arrange for someone to give you a call to assist with the sign up. just PM me your contact number and name.

Hi Justin

I will be looking at getting a 4mb uncapped account, should be fine as i can sign up via your website so I dont need a rep to call me.

4mbs account should be perfect for streaming and if you push any downloads for DL+ hrs you should stay in the green zone.

Woke up this morning to find myself on a 2 star rating, I was expecting the worst but tbh I was pleasantly surprised. Yes things are a little slower (twitch is barely watchable and downloads are going at a reduced speed) but everything still WORKS not like another ISP. I needed to catch up on some downloads so I knew this might happen and I just need to get into the whole syncing downloads from 00am - 6am.

Really impressed so far with WA.

Download Plus runs everyday from 12-6am. So if you using a torrent or NZB client you just select to schedule the start and end times for those hours.

So I won't maintain a decent star rating if I start torrenting from around 7pm? I have to download from 12-6 am?
Do streaming and gaming effect the star ratings?

Correct. To download without affecting stars negatively, download midnight to 6am.

Sadly I think so, any traffic will do, but gaming shouldn't do too much traffic so not a problem...streaming on the other hand...will probably affect your star rating.

I'm on 3 stars after about 95GB's this month (most of that bandwidth after 12am) - does that sound right? 10MB account and line.

Are there any known issues? I'm getting 50% of my full speed on all traffic...

Hi Joker,

You have used 45.76gb in DL+ and 66.32gb in normal hours. But the main reason for you seeing a jump in your rating is for the usage in the last 10 days which amounts to 60.18gb in total with 22.40gb in DL+ and 39.38gb outside of DL+. So you being on a 3 stars is correct due to the last 10 day usage spike.

You should drop back down soon as your usage has come down and you can speed up the drop by pushing the downloads to DL+.

Are torrents on capped accounts being heavily shaped? All of them are crawling. Current DL has plenty of seeds yet can't top 15kps

Netflix USA streaming quality still at a ludicrously low 375

So now that WA has been on the IS network for a while can anyone comment as to how their 10Mbps uncapped accounts are performing in general?

My usage differs between 75-250GB/m

I work from home quite a bit so being shaped/throttled to 50kB/s during the day is out of the question

Hi Alan,

Torrents should perform at close to line speed as possible since you are on a capped service. The netflix issue is bit more complex and will be difficult for us to pinpoint exactly where the problem is as it could be Unotelly's proxy servers that could be causing the delay from SA or even the server itself could be over utilised since your UK experience on Netflix is fine.

I have asked our ADSL team to take into your torrent issues as well as Netflix experience.

Hi Justin, I'm still having issues with inconsistent speeds. I'm on a Redafrica account...

Please PM me your customer code and I will ask our ADSL team to investigate.

Hi Grim,

I cant give you exact user experience on our Home 10mbs uncapped but it can definitely do 250gb in a month as long as you push most downloads for DL+ so that you do not get throttled.

However, since you need the service during the day I would rather recommend a Business 4mbs or 10mbs account. The throttle limits per star level is much higher than an Home account, so 250gb monthly should be no problem, again as long as DL+ is used for majority of downloading of content and you will not get any shaping rules applied during the day.
