Web Africa ADSL general feedback

IS star system is the worst in the market ( WA are IS resellers) . Never touch IS and their resellers .

I disagree. IS based uncapped acccounts can do the most traffic, they are easily the best for mass downloading, because they are usually completely unshapped after hours. If you want to use your internet during the day which is business hours, you probably should go for a business account anyways, but as a home user, these accounts are absolutely the best.

Agree . IS accounts are fantastic as long as you use them between 23-6 . If not, your stars will go away faster them a bullet train :). Anyway this is what happened to me and I am not talking about downloading . Why do I need a business account to surf, watch youtube and talk to my friends on Skype ?.

My account is permanently on 1 star, works 100% fine after hours from 5pm to 8am. You only really want stars for business hours.

Hello

I am getting warnings from Webafrica that I am using to much data etc etc , everytime I ask how much data is to much all I get is a vague answer we can not tell you etc etc , then they send you to their website with the star rating once again which is useless cause it does not tell one how much data from 5 stars to 4 stars etc only average etc etc but with no data whatsoever so that one knows what the average user is doing per day per month per week etc ??? Is there any of the Uncapped Isp's that does tell one you can download say 5 gb a day or 50 gb a week etc without some vague answer ???

Carlo

We are starting to send warning notifications to all our excessively high usage customers as we need to ensure that we maintain a high quality network experience for all our customers and not just a few. The email you received was only the first notice, so you will need to lower your usage to avoid further notices or upgrade your account as pointed out in the email.

Like we have stated continuously we do not have any exact figures for how much data you can use but we have given you access to a DSL console so you can see what rating you are on and adjust your usage accordingly to drop back down to a non-throttled rating. Looking at your usage stats you seem to have 24/7 downloads as well as uploads running and would recommend you schedule this usage to run between 12-6am so that it can start dropping your current rating.

We have to reiterate that these notices are inline with our AUP and that we are embarking on this process to ensure that we can provide a fair as well as equal level of service to all our customers.

Welcom to MWEB :(

Any news Justin - you guys have been reviewing for a long time? Thanks

We should have things finalised soon and we will be sending all our customers an email. But what I can advise is that the line upgrades will happen as per the Telkom roll out at no additional cost and it will be our customer's prerogative to upgrade the data (uncapped) to be inline with the line speed.

So, does that mean, downloads that run between 12-6am dont count towards your usage?

They do count towards usage, but they don't bring your star rating down - so it won't cause your connection to be shaped.

Basically they want you to do your downloads when the network is unsaturated, when there's lots of bandwidth available, else your star rating will drop and you'll be shaped more.

Where is high quality network experience you speak of...

I'm being shaped through the floor again, I'm hardly using my internet at all and I'm on 3 stars? WTF? This whole month I've only done 30GB...once my email address has been changed with all the required parties I've moving to AfriHost as this is unacceptable.

This sounds an awful lot like something Mweb said a while back. Before you know it, WebAfrica will be throttling 10mb users to 256kb speeds. :p

Why is there this shaping/throttling on weekends?Surely mon to fri 7am - 6pm are regarded business hours!
There must be millions of business user accounts not accessed on weekends so surely this would free up the bandwidth??

The ONLY reason i stay with WA is because their 2mb uncapped package is R239/mth whereas other isp's are around the R300 mark.
Otherwise WA is just crap
