How does this work. 5 star rating since I signed up on the 1st. only download from 12am -6am. I download 1 file at 5pm of 300 megs. I drop to 4 stars ? . are you serious ?

4 Stars is really no big deal. When you are on 2 stars, then its maybe a problem. Relax bud.

Hi Convex,

You were probably just on the cusp of 5 and 4 stars so the 300mb pushed it over but like Diesel44 said 4 star is fine your shouldn't notice a difference.

Let me know if you experience any issues.

4Stars is still awesome. Even 3 stars is great. It's at 2stars you'll get issues.
 
Are you guys able to download on uncapped at 4-5 stars?
On capped both torrents and NNTP are completely shaped for the last week or so. Down from over 1000kbs to 40-200 on a 10mb line.
At exactly 11pm speeds increase.

It is impossible to get out of Web Africa if this is going to be the case going forward or if it is temporary.
 
I am on their 4mb uncapped too and keep all downlaods between 12-6am yet I get shaped too during the day. If I need to use NTTP to download a song or mix of 200mb it is shaped and SLOW. Downloading a youtube video is also really slow during the day and eases at night.

I am not impressed at all, although their pings are always great when gaming. But still, can't install games from steam either as it is damn slow..
 
The people who's star rating's drop easily are you guys home or business users. I've done a couple gigs a day in the evenings and still on 5 star with business uncapped.
 
I'm starting to contemplate a capped account. I've looked at my average use over the past 6 months and for about R100 more I could go the capped route.

How does gaming affect the star rating on home uncapped? Will my star rating tank if cs:go/dota/diablo3/teamspeak etc during the day (business hours/non 12-6am) uses more than 500mb-1gb or something?

Mainly use my line for gaming now, i'd do any updates/dling after midnight of course...

Considering the WA uncapped home but, dont want to get stuck on some crap star rating because gaming traffic during business hours counts as "downloading" :<

It would depend on what line speed you're using, but most likely would be fine. I would recommend capped if you can help it. I have a 60 GB + 60 GB capped account and I tested a 2 Mbps account for month, and with the same usage I sat on 3 stars most of the time (both the same price). This affects speed during the day quite a bit on a home uncapped product. Latency remained stable even while speeds were slow.

Have you taken this issue up with our support team yet? Also what star ratings are you guys on?

I would also recommend a capped account as it's better for gaming especially if you not going to be using the account for massive downloading.
 
I know the home capped account sits on the same bandwidth quality as a business uncapped account at 5 star but do any further priorities come into play ?

I am on home capped and therefore no star rating. The account finally returned to normal performance yesterday evening.


On an account in this price bracket I can live with and am still very happy with only experiencing poor downloading performance for 2 weeks in a 2 year period.

Taking it up with your support team is what caused the frustration.

1) They made me waste time running tests on my side when you guys had already concluded that it was a shaping issue (As the support team did not know what times you shaped the network).
2) They told me it was resolved when it clearly was not
3) They were unable to tell me when they expected the shaping to return to normal
4) They were unable to tell me if they even planned on fixing the shaping or if they deemed the accounts performance as acceptable.
5) I sometimes got the impression that the person who responded did not read the entire thread history.

Point 3 and 4 is what had me on the verge of closing my account. I don't mind if there is the odd hiccup in performance. I do however mind having no idea of the timeline around a resolution and having no information on if you are even planning on restoring shaping to previous levels.

Anyway the account is running great again just more specific information when there is an issue and I will go back to recommending Web Africa.

The only way to stay on a good rating is not download too much during the day (only 12am - 6pm as you've mentioned). I always recommend a home capped account rather than home uncapped as the stars seem to fall very quickly on home uncapped. If your usage isn't very high though, home uncapped will do, otherwise business uncapped, but that is a bit expensive for some people (like me) :D
