Web Africa ADSL general feedback

Hello WebAfrica Helper.

You quoted 4 members in your reply, all from the Southern Suburbs so it cannot be an individual issue. This in itself is an indication of a problem, which has still not been resolved.
The weekend was OK, today the internet is frustrating to use.

Today is the 10th of the month, 4Mb Home Uncapped, usage 26.1Gb, 3 Stars.
Sooooo Slow.

Perhaps you can suggest a different account.

Thanks.

Regards,
BTTB.

I agree with this response.

The internet was "normal" on the weekend and now it is back (particularly international websites but also some local sites)...browsing is really slow.

Hi BTTB,

Could you test with the free 2gb account and see if you having the same issue.

I've been really happy with webafrica until recently.

I requested a line upgrade (4mbps to 10mbps) on the 25th of October, effective 1st November.
It is now the 10th, and still at 4mbps. They keep blaming telkom, but ultimately, I am still sitting on 4mbps after I've paid them for the 10 mbps line.

This is silly.

Have to agree with you stormart. That is way too long for the upgrade to complete. Can you PM me your account details and I will take a look.

Hi, I've only started using webafrica in the last few months.

I'm currently running on an uncapped 2mbps home line (can't afford anything more expensive :/) and unfortunately I have an extremely slow connection during the week before 5 pm (am currently on 3 stars).

For reference I have only used ~16.38 GB (download, upload = ~2.01 GB) during the day (not including the midnight - 6 am usage) this month.

Speedtest shows that I have an almost fine connection:

But in truth the connection is a lot slower, where it even ends up losing connection to things like teamspeak.

Any help or at least a proper explanation of why the connection is so slow would be appreciated, although if it is this slow on a 3 star rating, I would not want to know how slow it would be on a 1 star rating.

What's your monthly usage like including midnight data?

Hi Psycho9,

Home uncapped accounts are shaped during business hrs hence you notice the speeds go back to normal after 5pm. How much data do you use on a monthly basis?

With the midnight - 6 am usage I'm on 74.2 GB this month thus far (gotta love those steam downloads and other game updates).

On average I've used between 100 - 200 GB a month (this is including the midnight - 6 am downloads), although I am trying to keep downloads to a minimum during the day(for example only downloading assignments for modules, notes for modules etc.).

WebAfrica do have a capped 180GB package for the same price as your uncapped account.

I'll take a look into that then, originally the main reason I took the uncapped option was that there's no worry about going over a limit where you need to pay extra.

thanks for the help.

I am trying the Web Africa Business Uncapped Pro 10Mbps for the month of November.

I would really like to have some clarification regarding how much "Uncapped" bandwidth I am "allowed" to use during business hours (07:00 - 00:00) within the 10-day rolling window before moving down a rung in terms of service levels?

As it stands, my line is only able to sync at a maximum of 6Mbps. On a really good day, it allows for a constant download stream of 700KBps or about 2,2 - 2,4 GB an hour. For comparison sake, a 10Mbps line should allow for 3,8 GB an hour (Reference: http://www.hellkom.co.za/download-projections/).

My average usage over the last 10 days is only about 15 GB per day (HD video streaming/Uploading, Xbox One/PS4 digital game downloads, iOS updates, VPN connections etc), which works out to an average that is less than 890MB an hour during Web Africa's business hours (07:00 - 00:00). That excludes downloads that are scheduled to occur between 00:00 - 06:00.

This kind of usage has resulted in our service being downgraded from Tier 1 (Great) to Tier 2 (Affected) courtesy of the 10-day rolling window. I have done my best, sometimes at an inconvenience to my business, to manage downloads in fear of reaching Tier 3 (Harshly Affected).

In my opinion, this seems a little draconian for a service that is aimed at 10Mbps lines and costs R1799 per month.

As such, I would really like to know what the 'hard' usage limits are and why they are, in my current experience, set so low for a 10Mbps Business service?

So the Star rating during the day does not apply.
Going to change the account today.

All I can add, it was never like this before, the product Home Uncapped is not the same product we started off with, you have killed it.

Is your uncapped account a 2Meg or 4Meg account?

I have changed our account to Business Capped 270Gb today.
Will report how it goes.

having a lot of trouble streaming Youtube clips they just stop loading within the first few seconds. This is problem that keeps popping up from time to time with WA all the years I've been with them. Gets rather tiresome

Now this an auspicious start. My Afrihost is dead slow today and I urgently need to do some work. So I switched over to my free WA 1 Gig to see how that works. First time I used that in years - literally.
4 minutes in I was notified that I'd reached my cap :wtf:
And I don't see my usage anywhere.

EDIT - took 30 seconds to figure out what was going on with their tech support. Ahem - seems my free account was not listed anymore, only a old topup that had 30 mb left on it.
Nice and fast now

Slow again...taking 30 seconds to a 1 min just to load some pages

This is beyond pathetic.

Home uncapped has never been this bad.

This is one of the few sites that loads fast...
