Web Africa ADSL general feedback

I'm following up with the Networking team to see what happened here. I know issues where experienced with secure sites yesterday, which may have had an impact on this too.

Will post up some feedback as soon as it lands in my inbox :)

In the mean time, what are things looking like this morning?

Hi,

Both yesterday and today is super slow. Just now my 4mbps line was unuseable. I had to switch providers to get to this topic and make the post.

It's the same with local (News24, IOL) and international sites.

This is just normal browsing.

My email app, also greys out the mailboxes as a result of disconnects.

I have now switched the Afrihost and despite their warning on network degradation, they are better. Something is definitely wrong on the WA side.

It's exactly the same for me. My WA account is basically unusable during office hours. Everything is crawling. I can even load the WA forum pages faster on my backup Afrihost account than on my my WA account, how pathetic is that.

There's a distinct difference in browsing performance between office hours and after hours on my WA account. Either something is wrong with the WA network, or it could be traffic management software that aggressively gives WA Silver accounts lower priority during the day. Either way my account is not performing as expected.
My biggest frustration is that when I report it to WA or post it in forums, I just see the usual "no problems at our end" nonsense and with that, nobody investigates further. Very frustrating.

We're currently experiencing issues with secure sites.
More info can be found on our Noticeboard

Apart from secure websites, performance should be fine. I'm still waiting for final confirmation from the engineers though.

Nope - it's not only the secure sites - mine was working for about 5 minutes earlier, and then I got disconnected and couldn't authenticate again. All my other accounts (fnb, etc) are fine.

Please WA, fix it, don't make me go to telkom uncapped.

Nope, it's not only secure sites. So the fact that we're telling you that it's not only secure sites means you need to report this to the 3rd level support guys as a fact. It's as if the comments are just ignored? It took me over 30 seconds to load this page to make the comment, and this is not a secure site. It takes me almost a minute to load the WA homepage! But it flies when I use a different ISP account.

It's really frustrating trying to access Absa, Gmail, LogmeIn, etc. Looking at other providers for now to try and get me through the day.

Thing is WA is still my preferred ISP - last night I downloaded Apple updates at 1MB/s (full 10mbps line speed). Same with torrents - pull 3x 175mb series in 10 minutes flat.

I fully agree that it is very frustrating, but I can promise you that our networking guys are working full steam ahead on getting the issue sorted out.
Hopefully the issues are sorted out ASAP.

Same for me, I always get fullspeed at night, regardless of the protocol used. But daytime is a different matter, even for browsing which is supposed to get the highest priority on the network.

There's currently a google cache outage which puts strain on the network but I always get my full speed at around 5pm/5h30pm every day anyway? I'll wait it out until the google cache issue has been resolved to test again but the reality is that the WA network (at least on my account) behaves as if there is a problem with their traffic management software as well, aggressively shaping standard account users during business hours.
What else could explain the magical turnaround after 5/6pm when I suddenly get fullspeed again? From my testing it's schedule-specific.

Issue with secure sites resolved according to WAServerStatus on WA Forums. Mine's better, but LogMeIn still giving "page cannot be displayed" and Absa worked for 1 minute then bombed as well.

So no, not resolved, at least not for me.

Tried registering on WA Forums but still waiting for the email to auth my account.

The secure site issues may still be intermittent at this stage, however there is a seen improvement.

Please see a post from our Executive of Operations regarding the issues experienced this week. He's posted on our forums

Out of curiosity, why are you editing Eugene's posts?

Slow as hell here. If it wasn't for freezone, I'd leave.

EDIT

To be fair, files from a filesharing sites are coming down at 500kB/s +.
