See my reply there. I'd like to get to the bottom of this too!
Jeff, maybe you should respond to my long previous comment (#459) and answer the questions? As I've said all along, this not merely an issue of outages, we are shaped to death. I'm convinced that WA automatically/manually shapes users more during time of high network load which is understandable but not if it's done so aggressively that browsing comes to a standstill mainly on https sites.
I have already posted, on a daily basis, that I get FULL speed after 5pm throughout the night and then when business hours start, everything suddenly crawls again. Absolutely nothing has changed in this experience since last week. Yet your WA Status page is showing no problems. Well, the bad performance is still the same on my account. There is a dramatic slowdown in browsing during business hours and that's a fact.
However, the whole weekend I was flying. More specifically, I was flying right after 5pm on Friday. It is therefore so obvious that this is simply a shaping rule that kicks in during the day and then gets taken off at around 5pm and the floodgates open again. It took me almost 30 seconds just to get the mybroadband forum to start resolving, after 5pm I do it in less in 2 seconds. After hours I can load Facebook in seconds. Now it took me 3 refreshes to get the site to start loading and almsot no https sites load 100% for me. Shaped to death.
The most annoying part is I've been providing this specific feedback about the time-specific shaping here and on the WA forum as well, as well as log a ticket about it, yet nobody even acknowledges the possibility of a shaping problem on your traffic management software even though everything I'm experiencing points towards it. I just get the general 'yeah we have outages, have a nice day' happy clappy marketing responses. But guess what, today at 5/6pm I'll be "magically" be flying again. Why the sudden change in performance exactly when business hours start and end, every weekday? Obviously aggressive shaping by WA during business hours can be the only explanation now. It's consistent with the dramatic change in performance I'm describing, based on the time it kicks in. Traceroutes have nothing to do with it, since they show as normal, it's not my route to the sites that are problematic, it's the shaping that is applied on my account-type on the WA network itself.
Most people don't post the sudden performance problem during business hours since they're not at home during the week and when they return home after work at around 6/7pm, everything is fine again anyway.
Please get someone at server engineer level like WADavid, or Head of Operations, Eugene, to read my post (and previous post) please, or forward this info to whoever is responsible for setting the shaping rules on the network's traffic management software. It's one thing to shape clients more during outages to save the network (which I understand) but it's unacceptable when the account becomes unusable due to overly aggressive shaping on the http & https protocol because then I have no choice but to switch to a different ISP.
