Web Africa ADSL general feedback

Oh boy, and here I am trying to get away from Afrihost ...

Yep, at this point, I strongly advise you Afrihost/OW refugees to stay the **** away from WA Uncapped products for now. They have been performing so fking horribly.

Same here. I just want to say '**** you' to WA.

agree with you
emailed suppor on the 12th
same prob gotten 2mbps speed etc

2days later they say theres a prob will get back to me,still waiting, opend a ticket again, and they take forever

and how the hell can u say they dont find issues when they dont log in and test it???
gonna downgrade to the lowest i can get,and go to a new isp

from the start i have crap, most of the times i just let it go past ,but just getting fedup with this ***

i have one last thing i am gonna test,if that dont work, there gone for good, dark if it work i will tell you, maby it will work for u also :)

me and darkie have had prob from the start,we are just the unlucky ones

have to use afrihost to stream...,but afrihost steams 1080p really well actually even tho they have probs
dont run full speed but 500-600,but way better than the 50-100 i get from WA

I gave them too many chances. They blew them away as if they were like ****ing birthday candles. I'm done with this ****. I will cancel all of my WA accounts and advise my clients to do the same.

Fuc_k you, WebAfrica.

Here I am using a perfect capped account. :D

Guess it's only uncapped that is having problems. Will be making WA my primary provider come December 1st.

What is the Telkom number these days to reset your ADSL line?

Switched to a Business Capped Account last week but it still lags. Email hangs when sending login information and browsing mostly during the day is slow.

Mr Webafrica Helper, I sent you my account details on the 12th via PM, was there any feedback from your technical staff in regards to my line.

Telkom is 10210.

Having a bizarre problem with Gmail. At random times of day speeds to Gmail slow down to a completely unusable state. It is only Gmail, as all other sites are still fine. Ping mail.google.com at these times is sub 30ms, and traceroutes are completely normal. Closing and reopening in another tab does nothing. This only happens on WA, as if I switch back to an Axxess capped account, speed is normal. This is especially weird as the mirrors are local, as evidenced by the latency and the traceroutes. Is there a problem with local peering? Is the SSL connection to Gmail being shaped for some reason? Anyone else have this problem, and did you find a solution?

Bloody hell. I wanted to move to WA now since my AH Business Uncapped has become a ball of turd.

Where to now?

It seems to be isolated incidents.

As you can see from the thread only 3 people have complained. Which is nothing compared to the Afrihost thread.

I'm sure the rep will sort them out soon.

Ah. Thanks. Good point. At AH it's been about a month and 60 pages worth, and only like 1 or 2 per day that have reported positive experiences.

I tried the trial account last night while a Fri host was messed up. Was very impressed. I'm currently on business uncapped and looking to change. Would you guys recommend the wa uncapped accounts?

The biggest difference between the two is that AH Business accounts allow 24/7 downloading, while the Web Africa Business acccounts prefer if you keep your big downloads for midnight.

Otherwise though everything runs full speed.

I had this, or some variation of it at least.

After I made some VPN changes, it was still happening but less frequently and only a while after I made those changes. Eventually I had too many DNS issues getting to hosts on the VPN (public and internal IPs differed), so I restored the VPN adapter order. I then decided to set my router's DNS cache TTL to 8 seconds. The first few times gmail did the slow-go thing, I imagined that it recovered faster, but pretty soon I realised it doesn't and so restored the DNS TTL.

All in all, only see it on WebAfrica too, but it happens far less frequently than it did before and nothing else is ever wrong, so while gmail sorts itself out, I just read some mybb :)

Hi,

Coming from Afrihost, I'd like to know whether I can have a home uncapped account with them (499R) and still have my line hosted with Afrihost, or do I have to move my line to them?

Reason is that I would like to test it for a month before making my final move.

Thanks

You don't need to move your line to them.

My line is with Telkom.

Can anybody shed some light on what the thresholds for 2Mb home uncapped and businesses uncapped are? :)
