Web Africa ADSL general feedback

Yeah, it's ridiculous that even after 2 days of this downtime, an email about this hasn't gone out. In fact, I actually got an email from WA yesterday asking me to fill out some or other survey about how happy I am with the service.

Seriously guys, I'm getting calls from my mom asking me why "the interwebs are gone". At the very least, send out a flippen email so that people who aren't tech savvy enough to check out this forum (i.e 99.99% of your market) know why they don't have internets.

With all due respect, Jeff, the VAST majority of users aren't going to check any of those. This data needs to be FED to the user. The user shouldn't have to go looking for this data.

I agree, however we are working on a notification system. Also, if your email is hosted in the US and international is affected, emails will be useless. So, SMS systems are being looked at too.

For the mean time though, our status page is there which is the main "portal" to look at the current network status.

We also have an IVR message on our call centre, so customers won't need to hold on for long periods of time to find out if there is an issue or not.

Our capacity has been allocated, we're just waiting for our upstream providers to push the changes through so we can see the allocation on our networking links. As soon as this happens more updates will be provided.

Thanks Jeff - hopefully this will happen sooner rather than later

As someone who is at the bottom of the food chain, will this help me or is it aimed at those paying much more? Last night was shocking. Normally after 5 user home user see an improvement, hence my question in the hopes that things will be better tonight

There will be an improvement yes.
This will allow Home accounts to see an improvement as well as see less strain put on our links.

Once SAT3 is fixed, we'll route via primary again and everything will return to normal. Hopefully that happens soon too! :)

...thanks WAJeff....at least youre giving us guys HOPE again ;-)
Frankly, our lines was up-to-maggets for a couple of WEEKS now...could have been due to the perish of that specific SAT3 cable though...

A simple email informing customers about the issue would have been fine but WA haven't even bothered with that. Hmmmm...I tend to get 6 billion reminders to make sure I have funds in my account for my debit order but a little client contact is too difficult. Come on WA....not cool

Yeah well same goes for their support which I have so much helll with. They hardly ever come back to me with feedback or with information from Telkom until I moan or ask for it. Yet, I get more updates and information on issues by phoning Telkom myself with no problems. Please explain this, its beyond me. I am not happy with the service levels of WA at the moment and now this issue is almost put the nail in the coffin.

Have to admit....i'm not a "moaner", but it IS true...a Simple email regarding the problem WOULD have been appreciated :(

It seems that they are back and speeds are fine. Will check BF3 now.

Speedtest.net wouldn't run but I can stream from twit.tv.
