Web Africa ADSL general feedback

Same thing my side yesterday, mine started late afternoon. I gave up and set my downloads to after hours.

I do just about all mine in DL+ hours but want - on the odd occasion it is needed - to be able to DL a big file during normal hours. I thought that this is one of the benefits of a capped account

Yeah, usually do the same my side but had nothing to watch yesterday so thought i'll download something.

So I have left three messages since Wednesday asking Sershini, head of ADSL department, to call me to try and get some progress. Still waiting

Support tells me that the head engineer says if I want decent speeds during the day I must get a business account. Two things - why must I spend more for the odd DL I want to do during the day and why has this account performed well most of the time but suddenly from November becomes poor? The same time I get a bigger cap, which ironically I now can't use anyway with these pathetic speeds

Waiting for call from head engineer - based on my experiences, could be a while

Our customer care manager is aware of the problem and will be in touch with you during the course of tomorrow,

Sorry about the delays and any inconvenience which this has caused.

Thank you - Ivo has been in touch

At present on a home capped account, doing a test DL, I am not even getting 2% line speed. I did not think things could get worse, but I was wrong :(

I've noticed download speeds off newsservers during the day have decreased substantially the last few days.

Yep - right now I am crawling along at 5% of my line :(

I have been going to and forth wit WA trying to get this sorted and have been told if I want anything decent during the day and evenings I must get a business account. I think this is really poor and just a way of trying to get more money out of us.

According to WA, peer to peer is a best effort service, so if 5% of line speed is best effort, then this does not say much about the quality of WA products

Been waiting 5 minutes for Web Africa's live chat to connect me to someone. Seriously guys?

This happened exactly when they released the new caps. Was flying at max speed any time of the day on capped nntp/p2p, now if i get 10% im lucky during the day

Good luck with that. Tried using the chat last week, waited about 15 mins then it timed out. Then got an error message to say they all busy.

Sorry to hear, please PM your account details and our team will assist with whatever query you have.

Getting 30% of line speed on my BUSINESS CAPPED account.

What the **** is wrong with this company?!

Hi Biometrics

I feel your pain except I am not on a business account.

At this stage my issue is high up and they are trying to resolve "best effort" in Durban. On weekends during the day I will be lucky to get 15% line speed. Now I really don't think that is great if best effort on a weekend is 15% - tells me something is wrong with WA

As has been said many times, all started in November when we were given more cap

*sigh* why is it that I keep having to change ISP's once a year?

Dear WA,

I strongly suggest you get your arses in gear and fix whatever you guys broke asap otherwise be prepared to bleed customers...including this one!

If I don't see a significant improvement by the weekend you will no longer see a cent from me.

Mine has been borked ever since they increased the cap on all the capped accounts so significantly. I suspect a lot of the uncapped users then switched over to capped accounts and hence the reason for this mess.

I'm on the 100GB (R199 p/m) account (which was originally the 60GB account) and I'm simply not able to pull anywhere near the allocated 100GB due to the fact that the connection has been so f'n slow.

Maybe I should try an Afrihost account for the rest of the month?

I'm going to try AH for a few days. WA is totally useless at the moment - I can't even load web pages! I'm on the 100GB plan with them too.

You can sign up and then cancel at the same time but will only cancel at the end of the month.

It's pro-rata too.

Yup, what you said. Web Africa has a full calendar month notice period, so if you sign up today, and cancel, you're only looking at effective cancellation of 31st January.
