Web Africa ADSL general feedback

Connection swinging like a yo-yo. Ran some tests through the night and submitted a ticked this morning. This is ping data from 9 last night until this morning:

So apparently theres yet ANOTHER problem facing WebAfrica. I cancelled my DSL portion end of last month (for it to take effect in Jan with time to organize the handover with telkom and new ISP), yet my dsl was disconnected yesterday. Phoning them resulted in a long wait before the guy said that it was a premature cancellation error effecting ALL cancellations, and that he would give me feedback shortly on whether I could just tell my new ISP to grab the number or if WebAfrica were going to take it back.

Long story short, My DSL line is still down with no feedback :(

You can leave but you can't check out??? I cancelled with WebAfrica at beginning of November and asked to transfer to Telkom. So, Webafrica cancelled at end of November and then reapplied again for themselves to manage the line instead of Telkom!

Hi

Just need some info, my father is on your 2Mbps uncapped plan and would like to downgrade to the 1Mbps uncapped plan, does he need to notify Telkom as well or will you?

Please PM your details and we will arrange this for you.

Very sorry about this, we are working with Telkom around the clock to try and get it sorted for, please PM your details and we will prioritize this for you.

Apologies for the inconvenience. :o

Not 100% sure if @maeztro is describing what I'm suffering from.

My parents ADSL line has just been upgraded to an 8Mb line and I decided to get them a new ADSL router as their previous Belkin's Wifi was acting up. Along with this we extended the internal phone line by removing very old phone wiring and using some spare CAT6 from where the Telkom line enters the home to the new position. All this has helped us sync at the full 8Mb were as before we were just reaching 6.1Mb with higher attenuation.

However, things have not been great over the past two weeks. The ADSL Sync seems to be very stable and I'm not seeing the line drop at all. Neither am I seeing the WebAfrica ADSL connection drop.

However, every so often, there is no internet connection. The new router (Netgear D7000) shows the line & account as up but internet access as down. This will last anything between 10sec and a couple of minutes. It also seems to go through periods where it is worse (more often no throughput) and periods where throughput is up for hours.

I'm currently sitting on a temporary Afrihost account, which SEEMS to not be having any trouble. :erm:

What I've also found (yet not heard any mention of is WebAfrica's Website). It seems to become unavailable every-so-often, especially the ticket support part of the site. And this happens on every connection I try. I'm browsing/writing a ticket and suddenly I can't load the site. Other sites are working fine. After a few minutes the site seems to load again.

tl;dr: Line stays Synced & ADSL Connection remains up but periodically there is no throughput lasting between a few seconds and a few minutes. Tried another ISP (Afrihost) which seems to not suffer theses issues.

A ping test (30min resolution) taken last week:

Thank you for this, looking at it from a different angle. It could be similar to my issue.

I will have a look at it this evening.

Had the same thing happen to me. You should have received an sms from Telkom saying it's gone back into their holding pool. Mine did, notified new ISP and they took over line with no downtime. Called Webafrica and complained, long story short, they waived the cancellation of the line as it was their problem and didn't charge me for the month.

Never received an sms from Telkom, since it never went back into holding pool. they've kept an order on the line this entire week, blocking the ISP from taking it. 3 calls today and I've now cancelled my entire account (2nd call had woman hang up on me). What they have ended up doing (despite calling ME back to say its done properly, thanks loyiso you liar), is move my line back to telkom WITHOUT the dsl. So I won't have internet this weekend EITHER. Thanks so much WebAfrica...

Fortunately now that I've cut all ties with WebAfrica the issues will disappear and the blood pressure will lessen. Now to look around for a new ISP...

Just called WA and for the second time in three days there is a message saying that they are not available due to unforeseen circumstances

My hat - how can a business operate lie this?

Thought I would also add, not sure if this is the right place, but it does concern WA.

When I launch League of Legends and click the Launch Button, nothing happens sometimes at all and others after minute (+10min), I will get through to the login window.

This improves (almost no delay after pressing the Launch Button), when using my phone's 4G via tethering (Vodacom).

When this happens it does not seem to matter what my latency is, even at 200ms to EU it still takes ages to get into the login window.

Still without internet since this fiasco started. In fact, WebAfrica even managed to destroy my normal voice line capability so line is currently unusable for anything.

You saying that an ISP affected your physical line?

Yea...no.

I've switched routers and the new one seems to be functioning better. However, I'm still getting the odd loss of throughput even though both Line & ISP are both up.

The loss of throughput is both local & international. I've noticed a slight trend which is that it happens slightly more often at night and weekends. So now I'm concerned it may be exchange congestion.

The frustration continues

Another frustrating weekend of trying to DL with my WA capped account.

Last night at 21:00 was running at about 15% line speed; right now barely making 10% line speed - and this on the weekend.

Switch over to my VOX after hours account and I am flying at 100% line speed

Same thing my side yesterday, mine started late afternoon. I gave up and set my downloads to after hours.

So I have left three messages since Wednesday asking Sershini, head of ADSL department, to call me to try and get some progress. Still waiting

Support tells me that the head engineer says if I want decent speeds during the day I must get a business account. Two things - why must I spend more for the odd DL I want to do during the day and why has this account performed well most of the time but suddenly from November becomes poor? The same time I get a bigger cap, which ironically I now can't use anyway with these pathetic speeds

Waiting for call from head engineer - based on my experiences, could be a while
