Be careful Prophet, before you know it WA pulls an @lantic on you and you get sued for aiding them in driving their customers away. :p

In my internet access life I've some really terrible isps. Latest seems to be Chronic Lying Symdrome (CLS), it has risen above piss poor customer service and just bad implementation of crazy ideas.

Sentech was bad in so many ways, then came ODS. Good grief it looked like nirvana, but in fact it was 9 levels of customer support hell. Finally we got a new bad kid on the block cyber smart. They tried, but it just seems that their efforts turns bad once the sun came up.

Then there is the one on the side, not bad, but mostly great with its short coming... obviously this being openweb. We have the great devil the mweb. Surely some of us can't forget the big black box and how zomg $$$ it was. However they have gone from $$$ to be a force of uncapped to be reckoned with.

We also have Afrihost, the masters of draconian shaping. There is no other like them, they started the cheap wave and killed it with their uncapped. Ok I lied it must be Chronic Lying Symdrome (CLS) getting me. The new masters, the new beast with 7 heads of warning letters and rolling eyes. The new contender to take the place of CyberSmart/Afrihost.... well we speak not that name here in mybb. For it might simply sent out the Nazgûl of termination to drain life from proper usage.

Hi all

The reason for the most recent outage was due to planned maintenance on our network infrastructure.
We apologize for the inconvenience caused.

Please keep an eye on our Server Status page regularly, or add it to your RSS readers, to keep up to date with future outages or planned maintenance windows:

Planned maintenance? WTF?! And you didn't think to tell anyone?

Jesus, you guys truly are the worst.

If I had a WA account I would be so pissed right now I'd have cancelled immediately. An accident here and there is fine, but your service has gone to **** lately and then out of the blue nobody can connect any longer, then you have the audacity to come here and tell people it was planned maintenance. Something that nobody here was informed about?

Does your plans for 'upgrading' your capacity actually just involve driving as many customers as possible away so you can free up the network?

What if someone was downloading a big file that got cut off halfway through, now they have to redownload it and risk reaching their threshold?

Thanx for the heads-up after the maintenance slot...

EDIT:
By the way...you are not the only people in the IT industry who plan any maintenance work on a Sunday night...especially when using VPN through a WebAfrica connection to do such work!

Morning all,

Maintenance was scheduled around this - posted on our status page too.
http://forums.webafrica.co.za/showthread.php/7707-ZA-Essential-Data-Centre-Power-Maintenance

Regarding being notified via email/ sms - I've mentioned this a few times on here. I've personally opened a project with our Dev guys to have this done via an opt-in mailing system.
In the mean time, follow these instructions - http://forums.webafrica.co.za/showthread.php/7233-Keeping-up-to-Date-with-Outage-Notifications

It's the top hit on Google too - so should be fairly easy to find. As soon as the mailing system for outages, maintenance and everything else is place we'll let everyone know.

Maintenance should be specified on the home/alerts page of the website for all to see without having to enter or subscribe to your forums. There's no reason that you cannot send maintenance notifications via email at present, considering you are sending out marketing material to clients via the same channel already anyway.

Exactly, and the fact that WA claims they do not yet have a system in place to notify users of maintenance tells me they don't have their priorities in order. Isn't that one of the most important things an ISP should do?

Jeff,

I pay your company for a service that works. I do not want to have to keep an eye on what you guys are doing in the background. If you guys are planning some downtime I, as your client, expect to be informed about this and not have to go to you (via your website) to see what you are doing behind the scenes.

When you did your maintenance last night, I tried phoning and just could not get through. Did you also do maintenance on your phones? This frustrated me no end.

I've said this before: I don't browse your website like it's Facebook! Email me if you're going to cut my line for whatever reason:confused:

Seriously...
