Web Africa ADSL general feedback

I only have the issue with YouTube not buffering when paused if I'm connected on my WA account, my Axxess account continues to buffer even when paused.

That's weird as I also have an Axxess account which does the same.

Also at the office which is a 100mbps DFA link and it does exactly the same thing.

So I'm sooooo mad with Web Africa, and they just proved that I made the correct call to cancel my "uncapped" account with them. I did that on 1st May and was told you need to give a full month's notice. So I'm stuck with them until Saturday, but they no longer send those irritating emails, they actually just called me on my cell to tell me that I'm over my 14gb limit and I need to stop.

I have an uncapped 1 meg with MWeb and I just let it run most of the time. On the odd day things might have slowed down a bit, but I never worry about 7 days windows etc etc. So much easier and so much less stress in my life :) . Enjoy the freedom on your new account.

Are you mad at them for:
a) Having to give a months notice? iirc MWeb requires that as well
b) Receiving a phone call for exceeding you limit? It's in their T&Cs

@Fulton17. Glad you are sorted with your MWeb account :). You went through a ton of problems.

@Jase - it is a pleasure for browsing and no rush downloads. I have kept myBB account as that gives me a 6 meg line and I use that for "bulk" downloads during DL+ hours, so have come to a compromise (that deal will be hard to give up).

I am sure WA does not miss my being on thier case :) - I still do want to do a long post on my experiences one of these days

I also received a phonecall from them last night. It is very annoying. The worst part is that I am actually under my "allowed" 14 GB (Isn't "uncapped" great?), I just went over it earlier this month for a couple of large downloads.

It is a shame because I always recommended WebAfrica to friends/family but now I am seriously considering cancelling my account.

UPDATE 1: Just got an email from WebAfrica to inform me my account is cancelled as a result of excessive usage. I am still under my 7 day usage limit. The only time I downloaded an amount one could consider excessive since I got the account was at the start of the month for a few days. Quite cheeky to send this the day after they sent my bill.

UPDATE 2: WebAfrica reactivated my account, seems there were a problem on their side.

I didn't signup with the uncapped product from Web Africa on my 1meg line as I think that 14gb over a 7 day rolling window is an odd rule. I don't see Afrihost or Mweb enforcing that kind of window restriction, though their AUP seems to be more vague than Web Africa.

Practically, 14gig is not enough over 7 days if you need to download something, I did 15 gig over two days last week, then my account is very quiet for the rest of the week. Despite that I'd be in violation of WA's AUP if I did that much in a week, and that's why I won't signup to WA. If you need it you want it available with no restriction, I'd understand if I were doing 8 gig everyday of the month, but I'm not.

Is anyone else having problems with streaming?

Can't do YouTube or DOTA 2 streams... And now I'm missing Google's I/O too :( I'm shocked that I'm getting this performance on a relatively expensive capped account

You are not alone, me and some friends having same issues. Switching to Afri now.

Okay that's good enough for me. I have to switch to my Afrihost account to watch YouTube too :/

Cancelling today so I can start my month notice.

Good riddance WA. I've given you months to sort out your ****.

I can't understand why you people are raging on about WA. I've never had any problems with them, and even if I go over my rolling window limits I can't even feel a change in speed. I've been very impressed with them, except for YouTube, but I'm starting to think that's not WA's fault, because other video streaming services, like the one on the Escapist, run without buffering at all and at higher quality than YouTube.

My only problem is Telkom. My line is extremely unstable, disconnecting randomly and de-syncing. It's also syncing at lower speeds than it should, although it worked fine for three months before this started happening.

Tried to cancel and I get an error

/facepalm

I guess I must open a ticket then
