Web Africa's new ADSL pricing revealed

Not at all. I can't comment on that but its much higher.
You said the accounts are costing you R7/Gig, if the accounts are selling at R199 for 30 Gigs, that works out at R6.60 a gig, add the R7 and you have R13.60.

Shame..

All I can say is Shame....

I've been holding out for months, waiting for this in the hope that I can stay with WA. We curently have a bill of about R5000/month with them, and I suspect these changes will make it go down to about R4800. Moving to another ISP could easily make it go down to around R3500/month, so I guess I'll be moving!

I think there is a lot of animosity because people have been holding out and now it seems like a waste. I have been on a 10GB account at R490 and have been watching the 10GB @ R290 that is presently being offered by Afrihost but still holding on because of loyalty to WA. It feels like I have been let down by WA. I quite understand the business aspects of it on your side but it doesn't make it any easier to swallow. Yes the DSL complete options are well priced but that doesn't help my 10GB package.

Pretty much the exact same boat I am sitting in right now

wamatt

stop digging things up from the past.....the problem is the NOW!!!! What are you going to do?? Wat is julle PVA? Die ouens is ongelukkig!!!!!

Your tone aside, honestly we making the effort. Are other offering such specials? Yes it is buying goodwill absolutely but nevertheless its costing us a real packet. R7 per gb!. But we do recognise myBB and compete. I'm not sure we can say the same for the other major players.

Some say the large guys are not our competitors, but that argument holds no weight. Anyone remember a company called "All you can eat". They were hailed by the mybb informed members as being revolutionary and changing the landscape. Where are they now.

wamatt. taking a step back. you are the first isp to move over to be a tier 1. now i can imagine that was not cheap and costs would need to be redeemed somehow.

however you can't really blame the mybb populace of expecting a knight and then no cry foul when an ogre shows up. seriously with all the smaller ones in the fry dropping to almost making the R10 mark- the expectancy are obviously going to be great of you guys.

in this regard i'm not really surprised at your pricing, yes sure webafrica with R10 per gig would be nice, hec how about R300 for 1024 uncapped- bit unrealistic expectancy as you yourself have to carry some extra costs that the cheap dogs don't have to worry about...

the only think i buy from webafrica is the 30 gig local IS account, they did'nt even drop the price for that.
They dont understand that i WILL NEVER EVER buy any other bandwidth option from them. If they put IS 30 gig price up, i just wont buy anything and will do without, i dont care.

And i must agree although afrihost has too many people sometimes working on your support ticket, they atleast on the ball trying to help. And they doing well.

I had topped up the other day thinking i was gonna be charged 29 for 1 gig, low and behold i got 2 gigs, so was R14.50 again.

When the ISP's have full uncapped adsl for under R500 then i will buy it, until then, nothing.

Take another look isp's,, R130 or R500,R130 or R500 i'll say it again R130 or R500? that look like a loss of R370 every month. They need ot get their fingers out their bums, and push to be cappable of giving uncapped. If they cant do it now, then they need to move fast and make a plan.

EPIC FAIL.

What matters is price per gb.

Afrihost charges R14.50 per topup gig - if WebAfrica can't charge prices that are sub R14.50 per gig why bother at all?

WebAfrica case study : How to piss off and lose your customer base in one day, plus how to piss off people who aren't even your customers.

Note to self : Never buy anything from WebAfrica. Never.

so why tell everyone that GBs are expensive to buy when you share the mbps between everyone

I just want to ask the WA staff. You are defending your prices. So lets look at them.

R4900 for 110GB How can this be cheap or affordable???

Even the most expensive IS uncapped account isn't even that much and then you include 5 static ip's and a router.

Look at these 4 ISP's. Do you think that if your clients knew about these offering that they will stay with you?

I don't think so. Look at webafrica's offering.

DSL complete 2 which includes 384k line = 3GB bandwidth for R249 [that is webafrica.]
Summer Slam which includes 384k line = 3GB international bandwidth + 50GB local for R249 and this is with http://www.saol.com/

TELL me why do you think your prices are cheaper/affordable? Its not and you guys can justify why its so high.

on the bright side. their multirealm unshaped with 1 price and 2 accounts is not that bad (though i would like to see it closer to the R80 mark). that's about what i use for now anyways. data is via afrihost.

R1 price reduction is nothing to be proud of. I will never return to WA. You have lost a client for life.

True, but the cost involved in having the ability to buy at mbps is astronomical.

no it's not, it's been discussed here on mybb, want me to bring up the pricing for SAT3 and Seacom for you? Before and after the SAT3 price drop as well?

Come to think of it, WA... please carry on like this is no big deal at all, and that YOU are right, by July you'd have so much spare capacity on your precious network you'd have to GIVE AWAY bandwidth just to entice some people to come back/stay with you....

You can also get the the 30gb local from openweb.

International costs come down. And yes absolutely so do ours since we buy international capacity. The reality again we must separate from the hype.

Do you not remember pre-seacom when everyone said prices would drop 80%. Well guess what folks. It didn't.

Are you trying to tell us that the impact that Seacom had was only about ~10%? (That is how much bandwidth you are adding on the shaped packages).

Cybersmart and Telkom Do Broadband have been beating your One Price accounts for months/years now. Your prices are barely inline with the competition now, not a great improvement.

The rest of your prices are a huge disappointment.

If you cannot afford to pass your savings on to us by now, how can we trust that you ever will?

Personally, I think you and your entire staff need to go to a drawing board and ask yourselves this question:

"How can we offer sub R30 per gig accounts and survive"

If you cannot answer that question, your future is very, very bleak. Love it or hate it, ~R30 per gig has become the norm. Adapt or die.
