Web Africa's new ADSL pricing revealed

Sorry WA but this just plain sucks for the existing customer. Somehow you always manage to screw the guys that are already with you. While I have no idea on what the market is like out there for new sign ons, your pricing suggests you're not to interested in trying to entice the existing market to stay/move with/to WA.

@ WAMatt: You guys have done some cool stuff with wage environment sure, but seriously come now. What kind of reaction were you expecting with this kinda pricing...

Anyway while I am one of your biggest critics RE hosting and the Trial, I know you guys can do better.

I have been using Discovery Vitality 5Gb Semi Shaped at R220 for a while now - I was expecting WA to at least match their shaped pricing.

I am also disgusted at this pathetic news.

Pathetic

So this is how they reward their loyal customers?

When the other ISPs started offering good deals October/November last year, WA managed to retain my loyalty with their ridiculous "wait until Feb 2010" tactic. Now they are saying "wait until July". How does that saying go? "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me!"

At the very least I thought that they would up the 1GB caps to 3GB across the board, while keeping the price fixed. Now that would have been worth waiting (and now, staying....) for.

It would be brilliant if WA loses at least 20% of their subscribers base over this blunder.

Chill guys, just wait until July for a price drop... They might knock of R10 from the price...

They just want you to pay them enough so there CEO and CFO can both buy new Ferrari's from Vigaleti up the road... Im sure they have their eyes on that hot new red one in the front window!

I wonder if they're actually do anything about this **** storm they've created? But yeah I really feel disappointed :(

Nah I wouldn't wish something that bad on them. But I do hope that they spend the next week fixing this mess.

And I'm still waiting to see the 'innovative' part. Where's the steam and usenet services that people were anticipating?

This is what you call "playing in the hands of the enemy". I hope Afrihost write them a letter of thanks for this free marketing

The weird thing is, everybody keeps saying that Afrihost is selling at below cost, but I heard rumors that this was infact not true. Afrihost makes a small markup on the R29 per GB account, they only sell below cost when they do the 2 for 1 promotion. I kind of believe the rumor because Afrihost has been allowing signups for their R29 per GB account from last year and still allows sign ups, the sign up now to get your hand on the cheap account is a marketing gimmic and it worked. I have never looked back upon my decision of moving from WA to Afrihost, and I am glad I didn't stick round and wait for the new pricing from WA.

lols, waroop is wanting to purchase another F1 replica weekend car @ 400K per pop and get his new m3

Not all are pissed off maybe 95% are :)

I think the main problem WA has is that it invensted in this tier 1 network and for them to sustain that they can't take a massive revenue knock by reducing their 30 000 + base subscribers.

We are the tech savvy guys and find it unacceptable compared to other offerings. But a mailer going out to 30 000 + people might make them very happy. Remember they are not informed and will be happy with the reductions.

This was a pure business decision from WA based on sound research of their consumer base.

We might be unhappy but the most uninformed people from their current subscriber base will disagree.

I still say give them time, though this might of hurt their reputation on MyBB. :(

Only been 2 hours since the thread started and already 200 p1$$ed off posts!

WA you clearly aren't LISTENING!

If I was Afrihost I would use this to my advantage and really push a advertising schpeel. With maybe even another small price drop now people will move over in their 100's

As far as I understand it, it was probably below cost when they first started selling it. But with the larger subscriber base that it attracted, it allowed them to buy in bulk from IS at a much cheaper rate, which would explain how they're able to keep it going at that price.

Was definitely a mistake on our side to not squash more rumours and hype but honestly we didn't say prices are going to drop through the floor. It is a business decision though to grow our base and to still be relevant in 5 years. We simply cannot afford to suddenly halve our revenue, while our cost staying the same.

That said we are trying to appease the masses and we DO have a lot of innovation lined up. Steam, freezone, upgrades mid-year again. Yes we would have liked everything ready to be in time for 1 March.

That would have had a bigger impact, but quite honestly we feel with the major ISP's we are offering very good value. Now you may say "I don't care". And that's fine. I'm simply putting it in context. We not out of touch and we have always been very involved with the MyBB community.

We have also been very aggressive on certain products:

DSL Complete price average per /gb drops:
64% ,48%, 23%, 44%, 33%

Unshaped - 29%
