Web Africa's new ADSL pricing revealed

I think it may have been better if they made no announcements/price changes until the so-called innovative move in July. Wait, wasn't this announcement meant to be innovative as well?

The problem is that WA basically made it's name on this forum in 2005, and now they've done a u-turn and gone after the Mweb market.

Afrihost now is to WA as WA was to MWeb back then. Companies grow and mature and their client base changes.

I just think people here are crazy to be angry at WA. You chose to sit around and wait for them to drop prices, now you're angry with them that they haven't? You should be angry with yourselves for being suckered into paying so much for bandwidth. Move to a cheaper provider. How can you blame your ISP for their prices when the alternatives have been around for months?

Edit: Just to clarify, that last bit isn't directed at you, Smooth Criminal.

I am disappointed, not as a current WA user but as a prospective customer who was very happy with the trial accounts I used (got about 50 gigs out of that deal). Was just hoping for an uncapped offering in a similiar style to DigiChilli and Screamer - hoping WA's offering would actually work properly :p Guess, I gave them too much credit...

I'm also disappointed. I was looking forward to the steam content servers and hoping for an unmetered news server, but it looks like the innovative products are less of a priority than the main stream complete packages. Fair enough if that's what makes sense from a business perspective, but still very disappointing.

You guys seem to have overlooked SAINET, Afrihost is great but look at R29 per gig and rollover of bandwidth.

Ok, so Web Africa basically just -matched- Telkom ISP. Why exactly should we pick WA over Telkom , knowing full well Telkom is most likely to upgrade their packages while WA is gonna lag 6-months to "catch up" . R59 for 1GB is Telkom TOP UP pricing, which is -double- Afrihost's pricing.

WA should rethink their pricing structure asap... very very disappointed. Ill be moving to a other isp today, that actually has a competitive pricing structure... bye bye

Hi Guys

Firstly I know a lot of people are disappointed. But I don't think this is a joke at all we are being very agressive on complete pricing.

The other thing is we wanted to combine the two phases of reductions which would have been more dramatic but operationally there is not enough time to get the systems in place to support the new features.

Has the industry magically changed overnight? No. What about everyone else? Telkom, Mweb, Cybersmart, Axxess etc. Yes Afrhiost have a great special, but it's simply that, a special marketed below cost.

I'm currently only paying R29 for my first gig and R15 thereafter. Might not last, but at the moment that's tough to beat.

Absolutely, that much I agree with.

But to almost completely ignore the requests of the community that helped build you into what you are is a poor effort IMO.

That's a pretty poor effort. I hope the people who were "loyal" to WA and waiting for price cuts jump ship.

Not because I have anything against WA, but because competition needs to be encouraged. I was very happy with WA, but the current prices just aren't in line with competitors. Their support might be wonderful, but I don't need support. I haven't had a single interaction with Afrihost since I signed up with them because the service just works. I don't really see the value in paying double for support.

Can anyone enlighten me? If you're a WA subscriber, please explain why - I don't get how people can stick with them. I might Change my mind once their steam content servers are up.

I am a WA subscriber and and I feel ripped off now.
I have been waiting for this Big Announcement for a while now and am very disappointed
This leaves me no option but to change to another ISP
I did phone and tell them I was thinking of changng and they said wait for the Big Anouncement on Feb 15th
If this is the best they can do then its time to say goodbye WA

Siff prices and the losers haven't even updated their website.

Shape up, or customers will ship out.

I moved to Afrihost a while back and have been waiting for WebAfrica to lower their prices. They then told us about the Steam server and that made me overjoyed. And so I waited for both the Steam server and the lower prices. I defended WebAfrica when people bashed them and told everyone I know about the prices that will be lowered.

This is really not what I was expecting. That's why I feel betrayed. It's my own fault for falling in the hype trap.
