Web Africa's new ADSL pricing revealed

Hey, you know what WA? Why don't you just take me off the list for the R199.00 / 30 Gig promotion. I don't think it would be fair of me to make use of it after all the bitching I have done in this thread... and it looks like you guys could use the savings more than me. In retrospect it looks like it had very little to do with rewarding MyBB users and a lot more to do with a PR exercise. I don't really feel like being your plaything. I'll just stick with Afrihost. Thanks! :)

the only think i buy from webafrica is the 30 gig local IS account, they did'nt even drop the price for that.
They dont understand that i WILL NEVER EVER buy any other bandwidth option from them. If they put IS 30 gig price up, i just wont buy anything and will do without, i dont care.

And i must agree although afrihost has too many people sometimes working on your support ticket, they atleast on the ball trying to help. And they doing well.

I had topped up the other day thinking i was gonna be charged 29 for 1 gig, low and behold i got 2 gigs, so was R14.50 again.

When the ISP's have full uncapped adsl for under R500 then i will buy it, until then, nothing.

Take another look isp's,, R130 or R500,R130 or R500 i'll say it again R130 or R500? that look like a loss of R370 every month. They need ot get their fingers out their bums, and push to be cappable of giving uncapped. If they cant do it now, then they need to move fast and make a plan.

I remember some webafrica staff saying that their offerings will over shine the IS products they sell. I guess NOT.

I don't understand how a tier 1 ISP cant give us more competitive prices

Investing to mush in their own network infrastructure and then they expect us to pay for it.

WHERE IS THE STEAM SERVER WA IS ON ABOUT???

Not so long ago it was "unofficially said that it should be up and running in about 2 weeks"

Hi all,

Yes we will have the steam server up as soon as possible. With everyone being on leave it has delayed us slightly. Unofficially it will be up within the next week or two.

We should have a press release up on Mybb the day it goes live so keep an eye on the home page

I think there is a lot of animosity because people have been holding out and now it seems like a waste. I have been on a 10GB account at R490 and have been watching the 10GB @ R290 that is presently being offered by Afrihost but still holding on because of loyalty to WA. It feels like I have been let down by WA. I quite understand the business aspects of it on your side but it doesn't make it any easier to swallow. Yes the DSL complete options are well priced but that doesn't help my 10GB package.

Abe that's a fair point - I really hear you. We are aligning more on complete because this is easier for the mom's and pops. They just want one price and for good value. This is what we give them.

Now as for the downloading power users like yourself, we are trying to figure out how to make that work. Yes you going to be disappointed with the data offering but this is the start. Look at what we did in hosting. We already set the prices as the market leader there. Because we could. Now I don't want to set the expectation that we will always be the dirt cheapest ISP at any given time but overall we will always be competitive.

It's not possible in this scenario to appease the mass market and myBB in one go. But we have some more ideas going forward as well. To get both right is our goal for the long term.

We are going to rewards those that are loyal as well and support and are building the systems to support that in the coming months.

Hello guys,

This morning when I checked the server had just finished its first Terabyte leaving only 2 and a half TB left

At the current transfer rate, the remaining 2 and a half TB hurdle wont take very long at all :)

I am most disappointed :(

I was always a fan of WA and waited patiently for their announcement, hoping there would be a sweet uncapped deal in there somewhere. I even skipped the 30GB special because I'm with Telkom Do2 and use my 20GB local, so with my Afrihost 2GB for R58 I pay R316 with the line rental included for my 5GB + 20GB local. Yeah I know I could have had 30GB with this special for R200 excl line rental, but then I would have had to cancel the Do2 package, cancel Afrihost (who has been good to me) ...... so I waited patiently..... too bad WA :(

I think you're just trying to stall so you can milk the loyal\stupid customers for as long as you can.

some people don't realise the membership numbers and the impact mybb members can have ... to refer to us as separate from 'the masses' will prove a costly endeavor.

WE MADE WEB AFRICA WHAT IT IS TODAY. IF IT WEREN'T FOR THE TECH-SAVVY GROUP OF PEOPLE FROM THESE FORUMS, THEY WOULD HAVE NEVER BECOME A TIER-1 PROVIDER

You give yourself a lot of credit. Fair enough, the myBB has helped a lot but the real thing here was Telkom and their RADIUS loophole which lead to the R199 30Gb 'special'. In my opinion that is where the large influx started and built on solid support and their own involement in myBB has lead to a great deal more. We all were in the same boat and recommended WA due to these facts. We never made them, but we were in support of them because they were good. Since then they have evolved and grown. I don't get why the sudden hate campaign and huge negativity of every one. If you don't like them any more so be it. No need to burn them because you disagree with what they are doing or their business model. No one comes to you and tells you that the way you run your business is wrong. They are still way cheaper than many and are not doing anything wrong by cutting their prices, you are all just unhappy that you are paying more than another provider. That will always be the case, you can not always pay the lease and you are welcome to run to the next proviuder. That is why the month to month contract is great, just ship and go to the next provider and if/when WA are cheap again go back. You have the choice!

DSL complete 2 which includes 384k line = 3GB bandwidth for R249 [that is webafrica.]
Summer Slam which includes 384k line = 3GB international bandwidth + 50GB local for R249 and this is with http://www.saol.com/

TELL me why do you think your prices are cheaper/affordable? Its not and you guys can justify why its so high.

Wow i did'nt know this, looks like this will be my last month with webafrica and the 30 gig for R130 . lol..so now they get nothing at all.

i can just tell the people next door they can have adsl for R50, i give them the line speed and i take the bandwidth. cost me R200 and i can still keep my 4 meg, hell i can just get another phone line in here wich i think is cheaper cause of having 2. i still get more for less. wow

Do you know of a cheaper unshaped option with reasonably good tech support...einstein?

Yes!!!!! In fact they have the best support in SA. https://gconnect.wirelessg.co.za unshaped R150 for 5GB of bandwidth and they have the best support. within 5min they call you if you have a query. They call you back if you don't want to pay for the call.

Ah but even your hosting prices, you THINK you are the market leader, but meanwhile you are sadly mistaken. A Dedi Server again, for a power user, is far better of at Hetzner, being cheaper rental, as well as 0.025c PM over usage, vs WebAfrica's 5c PM...

There's a curtain over WA's eyes, and it's really not seeing the complete picture, and sitting the pot miss completely.

I'm truly dissapointed with what has been delivered in terms of the DSL, as well as Hosting packages...

Any and all suggestions welcome here folks to move away from WA

tera's pm box:

Suggestions for 150GB data per month, split across accounts of my choosing. A nice hosting package to accommodate mainly email data will be required as well.

Thanks peeps :)
