Web Africa's new ADSL pricing revealed

I just signed up with Afrihost, like many others, I will continue to use whom ever offers the best price per GB. If WA do change their pricing model I will certainly move back.

I will be keeping our hosting with WA, because it is competitive, but from next month I will be buying my TopUps/PrePaid from somewhere else... Because I can, I've been loyal enough to WebAfrica, but money is tight and it's time to change...
Exactly again why I am upset. At least with the prepaid top up thing. They really are going to lose a lot of business with the current pricing of R69.00 Hell they could of kept their pricing as it was and just made top-ups cheaper and I would of fallen for the complete package, and they get what they wanted by forcing me to go with a "month to month" minimum instead of topping up when I want

Lots of upset people lurking about.
Its safe to say that WA failed, choose another ISP and move on. No sense in flogging a dead horse.
If WA wanted to retain/win back their customers or even get some new ones then they should revise their pricing... quickly!

someone made this decision and sold it to everyone at the company.... so someone is to blame, not the company.
Yeah someone sold the idea, but they're employed by the company, and therefore their decisions affect the company as an entity. How this person is now held accountable is up to the company and it's board to decide.

This is the reason why companies like WA target the moms and pops. Because "power users" will switch at a moments notice. That is very difficult to plan/budget for when you are paying for a line of X MB/s.

I use Axxess uncapped in the evenings. During the day WA prepaid (anything between 1Gb-5Gb prepaid monthly). I waited for the new prices, now moving to Afrihost. No emotions about it really, other than thinking the pricing strategy is a bit daft, definitely for my category user at least.

Just my 2 cents. :)

WOW a client actually just asked me over MSN how WebAfrica is, guess where I pointed them?

Sounds like an awesome work environment. But that has nothing to do with how they run their business.

I personally couldn't care if they were bonking each other, as long as the end delivery is met :) WA have delivered good service, there's no question about that on my part. I'm just a little underwhelmed by the announcement given the hype surrounding it.

And who do you think is paying for all that.

I am starting to wonder how many of the real complainers here are actually WA customers, and I am not referring to people with a 1GB prepaid that they carry for 6 months. I am talking about people who actually fit in the power use category and have an account with WA that fits the bill. Everyone is welcome to shop with their feet but I get the feeling it was a bunch of people who would be prepared to jump to the cheapest option on a moments notice anyway. Not the type of customers I would want if I were an ISP because you are likely to lose them at a moments notice and not being able to budget can have a serious impact. ISP's pay for Megs and sell GBs. Lose a whole lot of GBs because someone offers a below cost special after you have upped your lines and you could be in serious trouble. I was disappointed and personally will probably switch to another supplier as it means about R2500 per year saving but I am not going to switch our customers. WA has proven to be very reliable and for businesses thats a good thing. I can swap my accounts on a moments notice but I don't have the time or patience to be switching clients from one account to another when things get a bit dodgy on an account. Perhaps when some of the cheaper options have proven themselves in both reliability and in terms of fail over I will consider switching my clients.

People do seem to be going too far with facebook pages etc. If you are not happy with the price, switch. Why must people feel the need to go balistic. It's like they feel obligated to pull down someone who doesn't do what they want them to do.

+100, the first adult?

It's their money innit? Does your boss ask you what you do with the money you earned for providing your services to the company? The fact that you disagree with their pricing doesn't come into the equation

The big danger for them is perception, for instance, I do not know what Mweb's prices are but if somebody asked me something about them I'm telling them it is a very expensive outfit ( perception) Maybe their prices came down but it's the perception that they are expensive that's doing the damage.

Mweb is R89/gig now

I 100% agree there. But it could of been done differently. I think we agree the data package prices are not bad right? SO why then make it R69.00 to top up? Make it R50.00 to top up. That way you at least have your budget worked out and you are giving something back to the customer when they do top up. Something that I would do more often if I could afford it.

Personally, I'm still keeping my Unshaped and Local accounts (WA news server kills SAIX and IS's one, and with so many people leaving, it might get better) But my I will now be topping up with Afrihost for my international on their R39.00 Prepaid. So instead of the R1.00 saving I will be making a R30.00 saving for top up's, But WA has made a R69.00 lose. If 100 people here feel the same as I do. That's a R6900.00 lose to them per gig each client would of topped up? Since I usually top up about 3-4 times on the 1 gig prepaid, It will really start hurting if everyone does the same.

Personally I think this is part of the plan though. See how many new mom's and pop's join up with their new complete package deals, compared to how many people leave (essentially forcing the "power users" to leave). If the profit margin increases over the next 3 months without the BS of the power users, its a Win. If it doesn't, then in June/July, they reprice their pre-paid top up system and get the Ship jumpers back. Its a win win. Which is why Matt was CEO of the year. Its about making money.

At least that's how I Look at it or do I have it wrong?
