Hey guys,

One of my clients is looking for a web developer to redesign their website, and they asked me if I knew anybody. They really are a great company, and a nice opportunity for somebody with a small dev company, or even maybe a private guy. PM if you are interested.

Hey Conrad, please get your terminology right

Web Developers are essentially non-graphical guys. They do the programming behind buttons like "Submit reply" but have nothing (usually) to do with the design of the website.

a Graphics Designer also doesn't necesarily mean you're going to get an HTML website. a Graphics Designer is someone who will do the layout etc.

a Web Designer is the person who takes the graphics and the code and implements it.

Now in South Africa I can understand the blur because of all the one-man shows out there.

So your client needs to ask themselves, are they lookig to design a website for their online presence? If so, do they need any functionality? If so, they're probably better off with a 3rd party company who has graphics/web designers and developers on hand to do the job for them.

So tell us more about what they're looking for :)

Not sure, I know I sure as hell aint even though I run my own business. I contract out any design work to someone that's a graphic designer and who also does HTML cutups in XHTML standards.

Unfortunately few people can do XHTML using proper CSS. Do you struggle finding someone at a decent price?

Not really, I know a guy who I worked with for several years that's brilliant. You get what you pay for I guess :)

The others I reviewed might have been cheaper but the quality work is a lot less as well
 
OK, so this has come up again - Let me specify what I need; sorry about the delay, but the job was put on hold, and then reinstated, tentatively. And then another job came up too....

So I need a Web Developer to work with us to design a front end for two systems: The one is an intranet/front end for an in-house business system, and the other is for an Internet based front end, connecting to the business system. I have DBA/Data warehouse person, but we need people who can:

a) Make a website that looks good, both the Intra, and Internet portals.
b) Design a functional system that can deliver the information, MS SQL, to the end user.

As Acid mentioned, it could be the same person, but does not necessarily have to be....
