Web Intact (Or intactless service)

i'm actually getting 95% signal and 100% quality now

Mine will no doubt boost when I put my (still 2 be delivered) yagi outside, yours that you loaned me is lying flat on my desk  downstairs next to the comp at the mo ..

I recommend getting dd-wrt or OpenWRT onto your WRT. All those Sveasoft firmwares are horrible.

There is an nvram variable that you'll need to modify to get it to dial PPPoE over the WLAN. There is no web interface option for this last time I checked.

I unfortunately dont have a WRT with my right now to check what the variable is, but a simple 'nvram show | grep pppoe' should show a variable along the lines of pppoe_if. All you need to do is set that to the wireless interface.

that is probably exactly what i needed to know. will dig more
thanks

well if this works then GWI should offer wrt's with flashed software cause the other stuff they supply costs twice as much

Agreed, the SENAO stuff gives precious little functionality for what U pay - even Telskommels Marconi ADSL modem routers (R799!) can manage the PPOE connection for you (AFAIK).

Unfortunately we will have to buy a Billion Router for the work connection cos we run Mac OSX kit out here and extra ethernet cards and / or Win ICS type stuff is just to costly.

The SENAO unit @ home is working and I don't have the energy to go thru what you are trying ;)

Well i am not clued up on the techincal aspect of PPPoE
but any info such as the software your radius server is runnig, any funny kind of auth settings, i really dont know, but may find the info helpfull when i'm trying to setup a pppoe package on the wrt's

Then there's no point in giving you any details if you don't know anything about it, is there?

There are no 'funny settings' just user name and password... and you should also set your MTU on your router to be 1480. If you use Windows PPPoE client and use a firewall, then you should also set it to accept incoming echo requests, as the towers use this to determine if a client is still 'alive' behind a PPPoE connection. Your connection will drop when idle otherwise.

You are not obliged to buy the Senao kit we supply, but it is the best as far as wireless stability goes - therefore, this is the only product we support as GWI.
Our agents are free to try cheaper options, but honestly - we have had so many hassles with cheaper brands, that we decided to stick with what always works.
The Linksys route is fine, and cuts about R300-R500 off the installation cost. We *can* do it cheaply, but prefer to do it well.

If you are talking about the Premium Combo Marconi, then it is actually R999, and it cannot do PPPoE over wireless - only through the ADSL port.
These routers are not good quality; and frequently hang, drop their PPPoE connection and just stop working for no apparent reason; requiring regular rebooting.
Even at R799, which is more than the Linksys, you still need an antenna, weatherproof enclosure, pole & bracket... The antenna alone can cost anywhere from R350 - R700...

Not trying to use the Marconi as a Wireless Modem, heck no!

What I am saying is that a CHEAPER piece of kit can manage the connection & it's a pity that same fuctionality is not included in the SENAO stuff, even at twice the price :)

And obviously the antenna costs extra. So does the ADSL line ;)

cant get this setting right to set it to dial pppoe over the wireless

Question for GWI: Response Time

Why is it that the GWI response time (here on the Nedbank Tower Segment 1 in Scottsville PMB) goes to Hell In A Handbasket most (not always) nights between 7 - 10PM? :(

Is it a local issue?

Is it a global issue?

Is it a Internet Solutions issue?

Would be interested to know who else has this and where else this happens

is the TBC22 tower evern going to be converted to PPPOE, because it gives the best coverage for where i am

Seemed to go back to "normal" download / page loading speeds (with latency issues, thats an IS feature, but I can live with that for uncapped!) at around 10:30 PM last night IIRC ...

agreed! - cheers

Ye well - i also did the 30 day cancellation notice .

*Service is pathetic - downtime - congestion - IS backbone ect ect.
*Support is pathetic - no trouble tickets answered - nothing received from date of submit (and yes i have the correct email addy)
*They claim they are to do changes & upgrades - but oh man - if i knew my customers were not happy - i'd kick into gear and do something productive and protect my image...make arrangements in the meantime

Pfffffffft - iBurst can get my money from now on...
I gave GWI a chance for almost 5 months.Tons of problems.

neewat dankie

i'll cancel tomorrow.. and none of my forms had anything about 30 day cancellation in them so i expect it to be immediate.

Support is pathetic - no trouble tickets answered
If anyone cares to submit their trouble ticket numbers here as proof of submission, I'll be glad to take up your issues personally.
Our support line is busy, as it's only one person at the first level supporting the whole country - technical as well as end user. It's sometimes best to submit an email to [email protected] if you can, to ensure you get the message through.

oh well, i'm going to cancel anyway.
had enough

bboy - If you want to cancel on the strength of not getting your Linksys to work on our system, I'm sorry to hear that. I wish you luck in your endeavours to find a compatible WiSP.

Make sure the usual technical issues have been thoroughly investigated - water damage, local interference, power issues, incorrect configuration etc etc...
We cannot support all products across the board - Telkom will not even help you if you cannot download your Gmail to Outlook through their service - it's not a Telkom address... but we will...

We try to please all of our customers most of the time - and we believe we are achieving that, judging by the complimentary emails we periodically receive at our head office.

Pietermaritzburg has been a problem for us, but trust me - we've just hooked up Pretoria, Johannesburg and Rustenburg directly to Verizon - and what a world of difference! With all three cities going through a single gateway handling triple the volume, everybody still gets ALL their speed anytime they try... and our networks can handle five times the volume they are currently carrying

Next on this network is the Vaal Triangle and East Rand, with PMB hooking up to Durban soon after that, with some more serious hardware upgrades going on at the same time.
Potchefstroom has just had the latest, greatest system installed, and should go live within the next few weeks.

if i knew my customers were not happy - i'd kick into gear and do something productive and protect my image...make arrangements in the meantime

This is a difficult and competitive business that eats money in infrastructure and bandwidth. We're doing our best to catch up, as maybe we grew a little too quickly in some areas - people seem desperate for a reliable alternative...
We are a small and growing concern, and don't have huge reserves to draw on. We're spending our money wisely, and are continuing to invest in network improvements.

On the whole, we believe most of our clients are happy most of the time - we're almost at our target, but it isn't always good enough for some. We acknowledge that, and are aiming to achieve acceptance across the spectrum...

Ye well - i also did the 30 day cancellation notice .

Maybe try again in January?

its quite simple though.

When at first i inquired about gwi this is what i was told.

1. We could try my wrt54g on the network and if it works they great.
2. I would have full internet access, public ip aswell.
3. We tested with the towers nedbank1 and tbc22 and tbc22 gave great signal and i started using it.

So i had a good signal, my public ip, 100% connection, BW was great holding at 60K.

So i started paying gwi monthly.

Now they changed their setup down here, i am to use a "gwi nedbank1" tower, its obviously a different AP as the old ones are still there, the signal is not near as good.

This pppoe connection, when it has worked its a horrible private ip, my friends cannot connect to my teamspeak or game server, we play.

My router does not work with this setup, no tweaks or firmware so far have been able to get it to.

I have dragged an old p3 to the window and scooby wired a yagi onto it to get it connected, its works intermitently, but way too much pain.

I have changed nothing, gwi have changed the tower i must connect to and the settings i have to use now are incompatible with my hardware. I'm not going to go buy another routher for 900 rand or whatever.

If things worked as they did when i tested and bought the product i would still be going along as planned. At the moment i cannot use it so there is no point in me continuing

Sorry my dear .... I spoke to 2 people from GWI about this - my friend (on GWI too) and myself have posted a LOT of support emails - any have never received any Support Generated Trouble Ticket(s)!

and , NO , its not a spam protector - i've even tried from multiple web-based email providers in this country (ananzi and webmail)...nothing..

so its outlook , outlook express , and webmails - nothing , nada!

i get average 15% packet loss - i can't stream local highveld without hickups - skype dies - certain mornings total offline service : authenticates ok - can't surf/ping/tracert jack.

packet loss to tower - 0

i rest my case

Strange because when I emailed support to ask coverage, I got support ticket and a reply about 1-2 das later....

I'm sorry we couldn't include you in the most of/most of portion. The 'horrible private IP' is part of a network change that enables us to deliver a service that is best for most clients. It used to be only good for some with the previous setup, and you were one of the lucky ones. If it changed from what you was originally promised and delivered before PMB changed to GWI, and is no longer suitable, then we should accept your cancellation gracefully.

This I will investigate... first time it has been mentioned here...

There you go then!
Thanks for your support for support! ;)
