Any news on the PMB P2P yet?

I am about to commit funds to an installation (October, 10 days time) but this would help the justification. Just to qualify: Probably looking at about 350Mb P2P / week (does that sound like an episode of Prison Break or what :D ?)

Hey there - checked up with the PMB guys, and they do the same as the rest of our franchises, but offer one better - unshaped p2p.

Basically it is like this in PMB:
Standard package = heavily shaped p2p, but still available
Unshaped p2p = pay more subs... which is actually a little more than other areas!

Bishopstowe Test (Torwood Farm)

Just done a test out here using a standard Yagi Antenna (7 DBi I think?) and connected no problem. Speeds the same as my home installation.

We used the trial stuff from home for the test ... /me holding up the Yagi, pointing at Eastwood tower, GWI dude sitting on camp chair with laptop. :D

Good news for all folk in this area.

Public lashing, laundering and trying to tackle issues raised...

I brought it up with them recently, and maybe the local guys *forgot*
to switch on the shaped traffic? (speculating here...)

In times of limited bandwidth, P2P is usually the first off the boat...

Has the installation price been changed or is it still the price on page one? I am considering of getting wireless through GWI since telkom don't want to give me ADSL, but I worried about the thing you said about uncapped to cap service, that means how many gigs for home 128kb/s users???
 
I spoke to a few ppl who uses them. Says terrible latency but u can download as much as u want. Unlimited for home users.....I wanted to get them but there's no signal around my house :(
So now I got adsl
 
Telkom said no new ADSL in rosebank because their DSLAM's working full cap while I was told they had a expansion on that DSLAM before they send me the letter.
Called the sales guy today, nextweed someone will come test signal hopefully, looked on may and also google earth, then I go out to balcony and check for northcliff's approxm location, think there is no obstruction in between since I am on a slope towards north cliff direction, will wait and see....
 
Hey that seems good then. Let us know how it goes and how their services are.
And yeah, all outages and adsl problems seems to come from the rosebank area, so i guess they're probably not lying aboutit being full~

WTF GWI?

Now I am not so sure about you guys anymore. Unfortunately it's the ONLY solution for us out here, ADSL won't be available here on this exchange before March 2007.

As we have agents out there selling on our behalf, it's not always easy to make sure they adhere to our standards, but you can be sure I'll call the guilty parties ...
 
i am considering canceling both my residential and my work GWI , unfortunately they changed the network and now i don't like the setup for home use, and at the office the connection just dies too often
 
Install planned for Thursday 19th here (and hopefully at home as well) now.

It's a month - month contract so if it does not work as well as my original test setup EVENTUALLY did ;)

But I remain optimistic. We don't have a choice here: No ADSL till March next year, no iBurst, no Sentech - only Vodacom 3G and you know what that costs :eek: :eek:

well i had a great home setup where i had
1. a static ip adress
2. a pretty good consistend 50K throughput

this was on my linksys router and the origional settings they gave me


Now with the new setup my linksys router will NOT talk to their network at all( different tower to use now),
i have been using an alternate piece of hardware.
i lost my static ip, got some silly private ip which doesnt help me at all
i get disconnected too often
my throughput goes from 10k to 50k but downloading a file with an accelerator i usually maintain about 20k.
 
Thanks bboy, mind if you tell me which tower do you connect to?

Today Tuesday, no one called me or came to my house to do signal test......
