Web sQuad ISP - Feedback Thread #2

My current ISP claims I am on 200/200. Checked with the FNO, and it's actually 150/150, so they used that as an excuse to rape my wallet.

How do we solve the issue of getting another line (from you) installed on the existing glass, while the old ISP is still active so as to avoid days of downtime which would be caused when the existing ISP releases the existing line and between when you can get the FNO to complete the install.

Are you in an Octotel area? Unfortunately Octotel only allow a single ISP to be provisioned to their ONU as they are vlan based. We've worked with them for a while now, and the process has become a very smooth one, and generally happens same day with minimal disruption. Our team will talk you through what happens and also facilitate the migration to ensure a pain-free experience.

We’re noticing a huge spike in traffic (+- 1.2 Tbps) on NAP in JHB. A number of networks are reporting high volumes of broadcast traffic on their NAP interfaces too. While we’re not seeing the same on our bundles, we are seeing degraded traffic to a number of peers. Some peers like Akamai affected more than others (DSTV, Showmax, Disney all affected). We’re monitoring and teams from NAP are already investigating.

Was just about to post on another thread (not on WebSquad) , lost both Apple CDN and Akamai.
At least I know it's not only me.
Thanks for the update

Update: Quick response by the NAP team isolated the offending MAC addy and its traffic. Seems a SW bug on some of the switches allowed this ARP responses even though the MAC was blacklisted.

Traffic levels have returned to normal for us all to enjoy another SA World Cup victory.

@websquadza - are you guys running any on-net caches? If so what DNS should i point to to get access to them?

1.3Tbps of unknown unicast was crazy.

We've only got GGC (Google) caches at the moment, and those are IP based, so you'll see content being fed from there automatically. We're currently working on a DNS deployment nationally, and will move to these new recursors as soon as they are tested and 100%. Our new colo cage at ADC Samrand has a rack dedicated to caches, so hoping to see big things soon.

very exciting development - thanks for the update

Alrighty review time:

I believe I am getting a service as advertised.
I applied on Friday. Today is Thursday and it's done, connected!
It went very quick, and smoothly, there was no real hold up I think we just lost a day because of Octotel being, well, Octotel.
But even so I cannot complain. Do you know how nice it is to have a human to speak to?

Many thanks to Norah and Carl in particular for sorting things out and KNOWING STUFF. Wow, it's been a while since I last dealt with anyone at an internet service provider who knows a bit more than I do about PPPoE and when the username/password is incorrect (because silly old me made a typo).

But yes, Vox Telecom has issues, we see that now, because magically things are working like they used to in the past.
Confirmation just came from my gamer teenager who says his games are now working and not lagging out

Norah and Carl are MVPs i tell you

Well I figured out a couple of weeks ago that Vox is throttling certain types of traffic. They began to target NordVPN traffic, then I switched providers and then they targeted that too. It's been a slow affair the whole day except now. Now this VPN connection of mine was started this morning yes. Slow as usual... it went down with the switch-over this afternoon, and now, the responsiveness and page loads over the VPN, is incredible. If there ever was proof.....

So yes, Vox Telecom were shaping/throttling my internet connection as I suspected! I want to be annoyed and rant about them but nope, rather just be positive, remain calm, and thank these fine people for what they did for me today! @websquadza

Thats what i love about Websquad, the human touch , which is something missing from bigger ISP's :)

The whole team is amazing!

As soon as our vodacom fttb contract is done, im switching to Websqaud for our business

The only thing that doesn't work is the inbound VPN.
BUT
I have a feeling the problem is on my side because I struggled to add a user to that thing. The original user worked fine, and yet I could not copy those details to a tablet either. Saw an article online this afternoon where they say the Mikrotik implementation is very fiddly.

So I ain't going to call support, because I think I need to redo my router's config anyway.
EDIT: it's 19:46 and I HAVE DECENT INTERNET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
