Web sQuad ISP - Feedback Thread #2

I think this has something to do with WA migrating to dd's network (not the aquisition)- but putting strain on the optinet akamai cache. Let me know if the issue is still there and we will reach out to akamai.

Regarding blackholing a whole /16 of optinet's network; doesn't seem like a very healthy routing decision. There are a lot of other services hosted on these prefixes including large swathes of DD's datacentres
Yeah it's still happening, found I can get around it by connecting to a VPN out of country at least

Akamai is meant to have upgraded their local caches, some silly capacity towards nap now (1.2Tbps). Doesn't help if they still deliver content from a 3rd party though

Do you perhaps have a static dns config on your computer? Try find your router's gateway IP and connect to the IP rather than rely on the built in dns resolution
Using this or this same, (http://192.168.50.1) or http://www.asusrouter.com. Same result.
Ok got it solved after a while. (another forum)

Yeah they are absolutely trash on a next level now.

Akamai can unmap the Optinet caches from your ASN and then you get the traffic directly from them.

They are now the largest peer at NAP JHB with 1.2Tbps.

Thanks, will reach out and get this done

Out of curiosity @websquadza, whats your current lowest latency to Singapore?
103.1.138.214 & 129.227.70.106 (/16 range) current isp says there's issues on the international side
usually get around 120~130ms, currently its 200~300+ms

Seems vumatel in springs has let its backup power systems go :( , loadshedding hits and vuma dies websquadza , I’ve logged a call that the internet has gone down,

Is there any way we can get vuma to look at this ?

Coincidentally, the looking glass is offline.
Unfortunately it is currently down while we make some changes to our hosting clusters. Should be back up in the next few days as we start winding up.

Vuma is generally very good at picking up on power issues at POPs and getting them resolved promptly. these issues are usually resolved within a 2-3 business days, sometimes less.

Morning, let me know how this looks now? Akamai confirmed this morning that they have removed Optinet's caches as a source for our AS. Traffic should now be served from Akamai's own caches in JHB sitting behind a staggering 1.2 Tbps of peering capacity.

Yup it's back to normal, nothing quite as annoying as having music buffer lmao

Very very slow today. Any idea what’s going on? Can’t YouTube, can’t Netflix. Can’t nothing. 1000/500 Vuma aerial Glenhazel.
