Thanks, I looked into this again after seeing this post: https://mybroadband.co.za/forum/index.php?posts/27036882

Clearly the servers are capable enough so I'm wondering why my speeds to are so poor.

I did also look inside some steam config files and i don't see any references to Cape town servers so i assume that's maybe just a placeholder maybe or only available sometimes, dunno.
A few years ago Valve removed all CPT servers from their games including CS:GO, probably because they were too unstable. So I assume they removed them from their platform entirely but the Cape Town option is still there.

Could somebody in Cape Town with gigabit do some speed tests to Johannesburg servers? I'm not sure what kind of speeds I should expect.

I can barely break 300Mbps and to a server with ~20ms latency that feels too low and have suspicions that it's related to my slow Steam downloads too.

As a control I did a local Cape Town test and that looks fine.

Interesting, presumably then your int'l traffic is leaving the country directly, while traffic to JHB is going over a saturated route/peering point? Just a wild guess. Be interesting to know if there is an actual problem / what it is, since I'd imagine it would also affect Youtube, Netflix, etc. for Cape Town users.

It does affect all of those services, fast.com reports around the same speed. It doesn't seem to be noticeable as both YouTube and Netflix don't ever need 300mbit sustained. DL's from my CDN providers' JHB pop also max out around the 200-300mbit range. Is a bit annoying when you're pulling from JHB, but rarely an issue. When I get back home I'll drop some speedtests from speedtest.net, fast.com, a steam download, as well as a download from the above-mentioned CDN (bunny.net).

Seemed to have been an issue with IOMART peering. Looks to be resolved now

It's not just you, I've had this issue since I signed up.

And @DrJohnZoidberg (sorry couldn't quote your post for some reason)

Running some extra checks on NLD paths between CPT and JHB. Not seeing congestion, but we're checking for performance issues on our side as well as asked all involved providers to investigate their end too. Should have a report by COB

Update here. Our vendors are still testing services. We’ve identified a firmware issue on a service aggregation routers which could be affecting services on the NLD path. We are going to upgrade this firmware to see if this improves matters. The change will not be service affecting for our FTTH clients in Cape Town - but for the few others, it will, so we need to arrange for a maintenance window. We will communicate this to the affected parties directly and confirm a window for this change during the course of this week.

While Vodacom was the fastest, it was also the most "jumpiest" changing between 300mbit/s to 200mbit/s, back up, back down, and finally ended on a high value.

If there's any other tests anyone would like to request, I'd be happy to do them. Vumatel trenched 1000/100.

Great! Please keep us updated and let me know if you need any diagnostics from this end.

Notice is a month right, which only expires end of April? So 1 may on openserve?

Or can websquad do a flip sooner ?

We can process the Vumatel cancellation immediately and do not require a one month cancellation since you will be staying with us
Ordered Openserve, the moment it's lit up they *should* be axing Vumatel and I switch same time

@websquadza Heyo, ticket #442493 is pretty urgent. Would like to get it resolved before I leave for work if possible. Tried calling your phone lines since 7am but received no response up until now. I'm desperate.

Apologies, I've spoken to the team and we're looking into the calls. I see your ticket was answered, and then updated now.
