And also nice to discover that Telkom still hasn't upgraded my ADSL backup from 2Mbps to 5Mbps like they said they would last month

Who’s the ISP on this? Is it not maybe a rate limitation on the PPP connection? Send us a ticket, we can create an Openserve account for you to test with.

Thanks, I've had this Vox fatpipe account forever and it's just stuck with me. It's not the account though as the looking at the dsl stats I see it only syncing at 2Mbit.

@websquadza may I ask if you guys have been doing maintenance at around 2AM the last couple of weeks, particularly on Octotel in the Cape?

There have been a number of occasions when I have had to get off my lazy bum, go down stairs and reboot the router and the ONT due to lost internet. TIA.

Slack had some issues today with messages not loading automatically.

At first they said users from India are only affected so I send them a message saying I am too. They asked for my ISP information etc. Looks sorted now.

Taking a look at my uptimerobot stats, I've been seeing this in the early mornings too. I'm usually asleep then, but it ranges from 30mins to an hour. Vumatel trenched, Cape town.

@websquadza would be interested to know if there's a specific reason for this?

My outage earlier was just random, have no idea what happened but Octotel apparently just needed to "reset and reconfigured" my line to fix it, whatever that means.

This is the second time in as many months too. Hope they don't make a habit of just killing my internet once a month.

Interesting. This is what I see after removing all of the load shedding reports.

Looking at my router logs, I see I lost the PPPoE session at 2:14am and it came back at 2:17am as well. Also on Octotel. Who knows what they're doing this time.

I know some people swear by Ubiquiti, but I had huge problems with the ER-X with both CI and WS. The Mikrotik I eventually bought has been flawless since day 1.

I’m not as skilled as you at setting up a Mikrotik.

Honestly it has a wizard for a quick PPPoE setup which will get you up and running in about 2 minutes. They also have really impressive documentation for everything extra. Your call, but my ER-X did not handle PPPoE well at all.

What about firewall rules etc? Does the wizard do a setup on that as well or is that something I would need to google and spend hours trying to learn?

Alright then, which Mikrotik would you recommend. I’m not extremely fussy about price, don’t mind if it’s between 2k - 4K. I don’t need WiFi since I’m using Unifi AP’s around the house.
