I'm also having speed issues on my 1Gbp line.

I have logged ticket [Ticket ID: 272713]
Most likely unrelated- you're both on different ends of the country as far as I remember (JHB and CPT).

Anyone else struggling to watch YouTube videos @ 1440p or 4k, getting constant buffering.

Also OneDrive downloads are unbearable slow, between 200 kbps to 990 kbps (on a 1 Gigabit line)

Log a ticket if the issue persists

A belated Merry Christmas and happy Festive Season to all our clients! I hope you're all enjoying the festive season and the well deserved break (as short or long as it may be). Thank you for your continued support and feedback during 2022!

Been getting a lot of buffering on YouTube today
Same here, not on websquad though but seems to be gone using Warp or is not an issue anymore.
Seems to be a general Google issue. Content being served from our Google caches seems OK for the time being, but from Google directly seems to be the issue. Will keep an eye on it.

@websquadza - anything that I can do my side to get YouTube to at least play? Realise it seems to be a widespread ZA issue but not being able to stream at all is pretty frustrating today.

I think I’m getting directed to the WS cache but just get a spinning circle perpetually unless I use a VPN.

Yeah, it’s very bad today. I have to use Telkom Mobile data to get YT to work

It seems at this point that any ISP caches that are back-filled via Google locally, or local peers of Google seem to be affected. Google NOC are still pretending (or convinced) there is no issue (despite dozens of ASNs reporting the same). We are seeing a reduction in traffic to our cache as well as reduction in traffic over peering links. We have tried draining peering and cache services with little change but will keep testing. The issue seems to fall onto Google favouring overloaded CDN locations such as Mombasa for uncached content due to an issue on their JHB node.

On networks with larger caches or more eyeballs, or networks that peer directly with Google in the EU, the issue seems less pronounced (likely because the video has likely already been watched and cached, or is accessible via the direct non SA peer).

Update: Google have acknowledged the issue and they are investigating.

Not seeing any network incidents for the area, so more likely a UPS device at a POP that's been damaged by continuous load shedding. Log a ticket with support so they can notify Vumatel.

i've restarted all my equipment too (as they are on backup power, so they would not go down. I did a physical reboot now.) I'll monitor it when i have loadshedding again if it happens again and log a ticket if it persists.

Thanks

Getting constant YT buffers again. Anyone else?

EDIT: Seems to be local caching related.
Noticing sporadic issues with Google back filling content- multiple ISPs reporting the same. We're monitoring closely- our cache traffic levels still looking normal, but I suspect backfill from Google could be an issue.

Any known issues with vumatel in Jhb, specifically roodepoort/ florida?
