Hi guys.

Since when does WebAfrica decide what sites I can and cannot visit. ??

i went to browse on my fav. website " not myadsl" and the site loaded .... 5 minutes later when i tried to go back nothing happens....

i don't get a time-out nothing... WebAfrica did not issue me with a list of sites that they will be blocking or refusing access too...
I am no law fundy but i think this is against the " Freedom of movement.. or even freedom to information... and freedom of choice...."

And thus meaning they are liable for fraud and unconstitutional acts towards me ... i have not received any notification from WebAfrica to this new "development" ....

And don't try and BS me with it's my connection .. or my exchange .. or the comms to the site ... i confirmed this with a friend's account " Telkom ISP" and it works fine ....

One more reason why i will be moving my account very soon

Can you tell us what the site/s is/are. That weird. They don't have any right to do so unless ordered to by a court of law and that on its own is a mission.

It's SAIX right? I doubt it's Webafrica that's blocking the site. And I am really not here to BS you,

But try this proxy:

cache.saix.net port:8080 ;)

I would not recommend anyone to use WebAfrica, apparently they are bad news.

Hi

I very much doubt they are sitting there blocking your access to some site. Why not try support?

Where did you hear that? WebAfrica is one of the best ISP's currently in South Africa, they have their share of problems just like all the others, but they have some great services to offer people.

Prepaid ADSL is one of them, with bandwidth that rolls over.

I've got a WA prepaid account, had problems on it a few times, but when I needed to use it, it was a life saver.

And no, I don't work for WA :p ;) :D

my problem is not with the WA prepaid unshaped ....
my problem is with my mainstream saix account .....

and cant blame saix because the site works form a Telkom ISP account and IS account

I had a web account with a site in Australia which for no apparent reason was blocked to me. I wasn't using WebAfrica but TelkomInternet. I contacted the Australian server administrators for this site and they asked me to try several different web sites that are served from their servers. I couldn't access these either. After two months of being blocked, I was suddenly unblocked. It's still a mystery to me.

I can't believe how irrational you are about brining such an issue here and bringing down the name of what is, one of our greatest ISPs. My opinion is obviously bias as they are my mainstream ISP as well, however such a comment on a public forum doesn't warrant the slightest bit of support or sympathy.

athO, with regard to your remark, cause you elaborate on the issues you've heard from people who use WebAfrica? I can assure you I am in no means affiliated with them, but I would like to know as it does affect my choice of staying with them or alternatively choosing another ISP.

I wouldnt recommend anyone to listen to ppl who makes statements that brings down the reputation about other without any proof except for the word "apparently"

Coz "apparently" they dont know what they talking about ;)

Hi.

I can confirm we are absolutely not physically *able* to block anyone's sites even if we wanted to.

It may be that the particular IP you are connecting on (which is randomly assigned by Telkom is blocked for a site.) Any site operator can block sites at will. When you disconnect and reconnect sometimes you get a new IP, but not necessarily.

In a more general context and going forward when we roll out our own infrastructure with greater control, we strongly believe in the rights of individual freedom and heavily opposed to censorship and that stance is not going to change in the foreseeable future.

Hope that helps :)

I'll be joining the ranks of WA IS account holders in the next 2 months and this outburst will not deter me, cos I've heard too many good things about WA. There have been complaints that have been mentioned, but they always get addressed here.

I'm understanding that every company might have its dull times with responses to support, but thats any or rather most business. And from what forumites have advised and on the recommendation of a friend that is a WA user - I'm IN!

As for the blocking - I hardly believe that it could be WA bru! I'll make a point of going to every dodgy site their is when mine is activated (and yes - I am talking about the Zim sites that the SABC blocks from its staff :D :p )

And no I'm not with the SABC! hehe

what an irrational conclusion to reach...
anyway webafrica ftw! i've had nothing but great service from them :D

What does the SABC block?

I needed 2 puchase an extra gig.. made a webafrica account, 2 min later i had all my details.. frighteningly fast. No complaints here. Speed 2 xbox live marketplace is way better than my IS international account

rofl, all you can do is laugh about this. At least i am happy with this "apparant" bad news company ;)

Oh, we can all read, Trust me on that one DagegeN. But we all have a thing called 'free will'. :P
