WebAfrica Capped ADSL

Quite disappointed Web Africa will not charge me R250 for a 4mbps line as per their website and instead want to charge R299 because I'm an existing customer.

Try phoning them. That happened with me as well. Guy on the phone sorted it out for me.

Been waiting quite a while on the phone. Think I'm keen to try out another service though :)

You could also send them an email. They can take a while to reply, but always sorted out any issues I had.

I tried that and received the following response:

I have viewed your account and see that the services where not purchased at the same time. Kindly note that when purchasing a line and data it is a bit more if the services are purchased separately and not in bundle.

As a result I'd rather get a bundle cheaper elsewhere with the line included.

Or just bundle it and get the discount :wtf:

When I signed up via the website, it said the line would be R250/pm. I was billed pro-rata for this month and R299 for November. The service has been activated for 1 day, and I asked them to revert the line back to Telkom for the interim, but they said I need to give one month's notice. When I queried about the price why couldn't they just bundle it for me?

Well then. 1st of Nov I'll be a WebAfrica capped customer. If the home capped performs like the trail account I'll be happy customer for years to come.

Hi

Can anyone help me understand this please. I have a 2 meg line. That whenever I run a speed test. the max I get is 1.6meg/s (not happy btw about 1.6) Which at the end of the test , tells me I can get a max 200kb/s download speed on my line.

Now after checking my stat usage. I notice some hours I did 850megs and 830megs. Most I saw was 925megs( excluding upload). After getting those to data per seconds. ( 925megs/hour = 15,4megs/min = 256.6kbs/sec ).

Would like to understand, how did I manage to download 925 megs in that hour at that speed. Where I am only able to get a max of 200kb/s (1.6meg) when ever I run a speedteest.

So then how did I manage to download/upload 965 megs in 1 hour on a 2 meg line ? What the kb/s .

Hi Convex,

Due to the way we received our data packets the hourly usage might not correspond to the same hour it was actually used but it is definitely correct. We have created a KB article here to explain why.

Hi Squirrel,

Really sorry for what has happened here. Our team should have corrected the price difference when you brought it to our attention.

Unfortunately our billing system cannot link the line and ADSL data account together is the one is bought after the other but like I said our team must correct this.

Can you please PM me your account details and I will get this resolved today as I would hate you to leave us like this :(

Well this is refreshing. As a current Afrihost client all I read on their threads is about why downloads are so slow. I come to a WebAfrica thread and people are asking why their downloads are so quick. Mmmm, capped account looks tempting.

also, I'm in need of a few gigs till month end, what's your prepaid rate?

I have a spare 20GB capped account I can lend you till month end. Just send me a PM.

I'd feel too bad taking your data :) Thanks for the offer though, a really kind gesture :)
