That suits me. I only download about 250Gb per month, so I am having a serious look at the business capped 120+240 account. Will work out much cheaper than my borked AH uncapped business.

How is your daytime usage with regards to streaming?

I'm currently on home uncapped, so can't help unfortunately

Home uncapped streams perfectly. So capped should only be better.

sorry if the following was asked before. Just too lazy to search for the answers.

1. Are the capped account "unshapped" and "unthrottled" 24/7?

2. I want an account that will be able to download via usenet and p2p without any problems, will the capped accounts achieve maximum speeds any time of the day?

3. How is the streaming on the capped accounts? specifically on youtube, netflix and popcorn time.

Currently on Afrihost business uncapped.

1. yes for most things, no for p2p/nntp
2. no
3. in my experience, no issues with youtube (as long as I use the html5 player, flash player sucks), other streaming seems fine too

Got full speed all morning and early afternoon, until around 2pm when it started degrading steadily. By 4pm I was only managing around 1.1MB/sec and it's gone up and down since then. If I could be assured of >1MB/sec performance during office hours I might actually consider moving back, but since I don't know what the cause of the slowdown is, I don't want to sign up again and have the service degrade further.

Hi Seeyou,

No issues with capacity in CPT area at all. Could be an account issue. Could you sign up for one of our 2gb free accounts and see if you get the same results. Just give the account 10-15mins to get assigned to the correct profile and test.

Hi Spartaniz,

Our capped accounts bandwidth is prioritized according to link here

PSP/NNTP are shaped on Home capped accounts during business hrs and will run at close to line speed after-hours and weekends. If you want P2P/NNTP to run at close to line speed then you will need to opt for a Business capped account.

Streaming on our capped accounts perform well both Home or Business. Give our free 2gb home account a try and see for yourself.

I noticed there's a line bundle option for 20Mb's on your business capped accounts but not on home capped.

Can Home capped properly handle 20Mb's or is Business better for purpose? My main use is streaming (Netflix, Youtube, etc) multiple streams with some simultaneous browsing. Family of 5 who all uses the net.

I actually registered for a 5GB Business capped account and ran the same series of tests, on the hour every hour for a weekday. I experienced the exact same pattern, though to a lesser extent, I assume due to the more lenient shaping rules on business. I was, however, never able to achieve full speed after around 3pm, and though the situation improves somewhat after 5pm, even on Business the account runs at just over half capacity until the early hours of the morning.

I'd be willing to entertain the idea that perhaps I'm seeing exchange congestion, however my pings and traceroutes show no indication of this, and the Axxess account I'm testing concurrently is consistently able to max out my line at the same times, if I switch to it.

It was suggested to me that certain ISP routing may more favourably interact with certain exchanges, but I don't know enough about that to place any amount of weight behind the suggestion. All in all, it seems WA is just not destined to be my ISP.

The capped accounts handle 20Meg just fine. Some people even use them on 40Mg VDSL.

Will give some feedback on how multiple streams work when I get up and running.

You should definitely be able to bundle the 20mbp/s line with any capped account. Did you go to our Capped VDSL page here?

Home capped accounts can definitely handle 20mbp/s speeds just fine:). During our promo it handled more than one 40mbp/s line connected to one capped account at the same time.

Can anyone help me understand this please. I have a 2 meg line. That whenever I run a speed test. the max I get is 1.6meg/s (not happy btw about 1.6) Which at the end of the test , tells me I can get a max 200kb/s download speed on my line.

Now after checking my stat usage. I notice some hours I did 850megs and 830megs. Most I saw was 925megs( excluding upload). After getting those to data per seconds. ( 925megs/hour = 15,4megs/min = 256.6kbs/sec ).

Would like to understand, how did I manage to download 925 megs in that hour at that speed. Where I am only able to get a max of 200kb/s (1.6meg) when ever I run a speedteest.

Because your math is wrong

*edit* it's 210.48kb/s you're getting, which is maxing out your line. 2mbps lines usually max out at 210kb/s depending on the ISP, real-world downloads you'd see more or less 190-202kb/s

The speed test also depends on where you tested. Local will always be faster than international, but then that also depends where you are testing locally

2 "meg" = 2048kb. For disk space, that's how it works. However, for internet speed:

2 mbps = (2048 divided by 8) kb/sec, which is 256kb/s

Compensate for the overhead, which is about 20% of the total line speed (and this fluctuates):

256kb/s * 0.80 = 204.8kb/s

So getting 210.48kb/s speed is pretty decent and maxing out your line
