WebAfrica Capped ADSL

No Star rating attached to a capped account and you can consume the data as fast as your line allows :)

A capped account will definitely be the best for you.

You can sign up for the test account here and just move the slider over to the 2gb account and you will see it will be listed as free.

Thank you!

Quick question: Looking to sign up and I see various types of capped accounts...

What are all the differences between normal and pro...other than contention ratios? From my understanding capped is unshaped. Period. Could someone in the know give me a rundown please?

Basically got to do with priorities. Home capped will have slower p2p than pro during the day. At night they should perform the same.

Ah. Good good. I don't use p2p at all so no sweat off my back on that one. Gaming and streaming priorities the same no matter the time of day? Or say...steam downloads?

Left WA a few months back due to the harsh daytime shaping on NNTP downloads, which (in my experience) carries on long into the evening. Was curious after reading the latest replies here, so I logged onto my trial account which is still active, and tested NNTP. Instantly shaped/throttled down to 700k/sec and below on a 20mbps line. Browsing/streaming in general are good, so nothing's changed there.

I believe the trial accounts are on the business capped profile, though I'm open to correction there. Just a warning to anyone who needs to download at all outside of the midnight to 6am golden period, it's not all roses and sunshine.

Those should all be at your line speed.

The 2GB free account is home capped profile.

This is still one of the trial 5GB accounts they were offering a while back. Regardless, even if business performed at 2x the speed of home, it would still not be close to line speed for these kinds of downloads. Just putting it out there for anyone considering so they have all the information, especially given the calendar month notice period. Use it, don't use it.

What ISP are you with?

is the capped accounts, shaped, prioritised or anything?

I was looking at the 40+80 for R149.

That account has some shaping on p2p during the day. After 17:00 it shouldn't be noticeable.

That's fine, most downloads can happen after midnight.

How's streaming? specifically, Supersport.com? I'm with Afrihost and I'm hesitant to leave because the streaming works flawlessly.

Even when I was on Home uncapped which has a lower priority than capped, it worked perfectly.

I'm shopping around for an account that doesn't try to dictate when I can use the gigs I've paid for. Currently testing Axxess capped.

That's cool. Reason I ask is even when I was on Home uncapped which has a lower priority than capped I could torrent just fine.

So you shouldn't be so quick to blame.

What caused this chip on your shoulder if I may ask?

Unless WA have some other problem, like a lack of capacity in the Cape, it's most definitely a WA issue. I've tested VOX and Axxess so far, and both max out my line at any hour. NNTP is actually less demanding of a protocol than Bittorrent, so your difference in experience is bizarre to say the least. When I asked why my performance was so low on a capped account, I was fed the usual line about P2P being deprioritised during the day. Back then, deprioritised saw me getting a max of 120k/sec on a 20mbps line, which is pretty much useless. I think I had cause for being pissed off, given I was now locked into another month whether I liked it or not and my issues were dismissed because it was a best effort protocol.

I don't think warning people about potential issues qualifies as a chip on my shoulder. I'd appreciate the heads up if the tables were turned.

Another question - on the capped business accounts - does NNTP get shaped during the day?

Anyone that can answer this question please? I am trying to decide on what account would work best for me as I cancelled my current account with AH due to bad performance and shaping on business account.

Try looking at the Pro packages ...

Using the free capped gives me full speed on nntp...no idea what you're talking about then seeyou. When did you use their product? I ask because things sound like it changed. I'm certainly not seeing what you've experienced.

I'll give home pro a bash next month and see how it goes. Though be damn sure I'll pop right on here and apologise to you if my account will indeed be as shaped as your experience was.
