I think the Red falls under home if I remember correctly

One thing I noticed with their cheap Home Uncapped ADSL 2mbps is that if you are maxing out your line with downloads (at night) and you try to browse, sometimes the connection closes and you have to hit refresh.

Do you guys find it the same for the capped accounts?

It looks like our exchange may be up for upgrade to VDSL shortly. Just wanted to confirm - do these accounts (theoretically) go at full line speed? Has anyone ever successfully used a capped account at say, 40mbps?

Yes, you will get full speed as long as there is no issues with your line or exchange.

WA is shaped a bit more than I would like. I spent the better part of the last 2 days testing the 5gb trial and I'm not too impressed to be honest.

The nail in the coffin for me, was when I couldn't stream higher than 480p on Netflix. It's a big one for me. On a 10mb line I expect more...

No congestion, no line issues... Switched to another ISP and off she went. HD on Netflix and all back to normal.

Note to WA : if you gonna sell a capped product it MUST be unshaped 24/7

Very strange that your had this experience with our capped trial. Could you PM me the username and I will need trace route and speed test results to investigate.

Question to WA guys - I've got the Red 30gb deal @ R199.00. Under what does this bandwidth currently fall - Home or Business? Desperately need more bandwidth but have been happy with the service I got out of the Red deal, so don't want to downgrade on the quality of the bandwidth.

The Red Africa deal is on the home capped profile which is Titanium so if you upgrade it will be the same performance.

Not to worry. If I had to waste time on speedtest and tracert's on a trial account, then I will most likely end up wasting even more time on the real thing. Nothing personal, just dont like the product.

thanks anyway though, cheers

Strange because I also signed up for the test account and it was running at full speed, even when testing torrents during the day they were running at ~ 180 - 200kB/s on my 2 Mbps line.

Signed up yesterday with the 5gb Trial account, from what I've experienced so far is that it's really good! When streaming videos on Youtube @ 720p it loads far ahead of where the actual video is. Streaming on Twitch has been really good as well.
My speedtest earlier today was 15ms ping to Pretoria servers(I am situated in Pretoria) with 3.56 DL speed according to the speedtest. Was testing it on my 4mb line.
Also posted some stats last night when I applied for trial accounts at various ISP's.(Last post on the page)

Trial accounts are business capped accounts. You will not get the same results from the home capped accounts. It is by no means bad, but you can forget about P2P during day time on the home capped account.

Hi Minerva,

Unfortunately you are wrong on this one. Our trial accounts are on the same profile (Titanium) as Home Capped accounts.

We do not offer business capped trial at the moment.

Thanks for the feedback guys and we're glad you loving our capped accounts.

Like I said to 'Techhead' I found it very strange that he would experience that when most customers have said the same thing as what you guys just said. He unfortunately doesn't want to provide test results to substantiate his claims nor does he want my assistance so for now its just hearsay.

Ok then, but the point remains that there is no P2P performance during day time in the home capped accounts...

Yes, you might notice that P2P protocols will not perform as per normal during the daytime/business hours but it should not be a big drop from normal. It is a home based account which means priority to those non essential protocols are given to business accounts. Other protocols like streaming, browsing, etc will run as per normal as those are regarded as essential protocols.

If you need P2P to run full speed anytime you will need business account as that has priority for P2P during the day and will not be affected that much bu major network issues like cable breaks etc..

why would you need priority for p2p during the day anyway?

Because maybe I am awake at night and sleep during the day. Or perhaps I want to download a distro and use it straight away. The point is, it's a capped account and one would expect 100% performance 100% of the time until the cap is finished. The after hours additional data is there to encourage people to download at night, but I still expect full speed everything all the time.

Apart from P2P during the day, I am fairly happy with the offering.

I think OW freedom capped unshaped will suit you better. I was given 30GB to test with and I could achieve line speed with p2p and nntp during the day.

The uncapped account hasn't given me anything more than 220ms ping with PoE and WoW

Hi Guys,

If you guys are based in CPT there were issues with our IPC links caused by Telkom when they tried to make changes on the network. Issue has been confirmed as resolved yesterday at about 6pm.

Please let me know if you guys are still having issues?

Hi, I had bad lag and connectivity issues while playing Guild Wars 2 last night from around 9pm. Changing over to my TelkomInternet account made little difference. Might it be related to the issues mentioned above?

I've also been having brief periods of what feel like lag, but upon checking the latency in Win7 Resource Monitor app (no idea how accurate it is), it appears mostly normal. Might be related to the NTP DDOS I've hearing about lately...

I'm in the Durbanville area.
