WebAfrica Capped ADSL

So I've decided I have had enough. And WEB AFRICA seem to insist that even though they do not have capacity to provide the product they are billing me R1400 a month for, I must pay it until the end of July.

Can someone provide any advise?

Hi,

Please PM me your account details so I can assist.

Hi WebAfrica Helper. Any feedback on the extra IPC capacity in the South?

I have a 40MB VDSL connection and a WebAfrica business capped account and can barely stream youtube or twitch at times.

We need some sort of ETA or something ASAP

Hi,

Our upstream provider has increased its capacity and our customers have been giving us good feedback. So I must say that it's a bit bizarre that you're still experiencing issues. Can you please PM me your account details so I can help.

I have noticed the improvement and yes it now functions well, but im disgusted how this was even possible in the first place. Could you please explain WebAfrica Helper? Secondly why do the support not openly tell people this and just give same responses, ie tracert, speedtest, etc knowing the reason of why peoples lines are so poor. It is only in this cave (Forum) that webafrica openly admits it. I find this very untrustworthy

but there is still heavy protocol management. i am on a 20mbp home uncapped and do well beow the thresholds. yet my nttp is slow as hell. hell i have not been downloading much in the last 2 weeks.

this is piss poor.

let me cast my eye

edit - router says 210gb total traffic

So Webafrica is a reseller? Like Openweb!

Downloaded a movie (during DL+ time) from the WA news server last night. Average speed - on a 20MB VDSL line - was 562 KB/s.

Not bizarre: pretty standard these days.

Use a paid news server for proper speeds. WA news server = IS news server

If your download was during peak hours it was merely shaped.

I am aware of the fact that WA news server = IS news server.

OTOH:
  • I frequently get better speeds off the WA port; and
  • Until the bandwidth problem reared its head I was getting a solid 2.3 MB NNTP during DL+ times.
IMHO:
  • Either WA/IS have still not resolved all of their network issues; and/or
  • Are shaping NNTP during DL+ hours.

Hi byron2012,

I can understand why you're disgusted. Issues like these are quite nauseating and not to mention - the frustration that comes along with it.

There reason we were asking our customers to provide us with speed and trace route tests - was to differentiate customers who had line issues, router problems or any other problems that were excluded from the upstream provider network issue. We had to follow the normal troubleshooting protocol and not assume that everyone was affected (not everyone was affected). It's totally understandable why you're second guessing us and hopefully, we will regain your trust again in the future.

Seriously? I think you really need to be better than this.

I read your response more like, "we will try and deflect, deny and blame absolutely anything we can other than our service" - "when the customer knows enough to prove it is our network - we will begrudgingly admit the fault that exists"...

Or there is contention on the IS news server.

EDIT: I use another IS ISP and am noticing a degradation on nntp speeds lately, and I'm in durban.

As I mentioned the NNTP slow-down happened at exactly the same time as the bandwidth crunch. Whilst contention is a possibility why was it never an issue in the past ?

EDIT: I also tested against Astra and experienced the same slowdown. I then switched to Afrihost and received a solid 2.3 MB/sec

If you got the same slowdown on a paid server aswell, then I have to blame WA.

Need to test it first with another IS ISP and a non IS ISP, only then one can fully blame WA :p

As mentioned above I tested with Afrihost and experienced no slow-downs.

You do, however, raise an interesting point: who are the IS ISPs - offering a test account - these days ?

I have only used 12 of my 40 gigs for the month, yet being throttled to the ground atm. I have paid for those gigs, why cant I use them.
